Description
Capots Vintage, specialists in Sport & Collection vehicles in Lyon, presents this automobile for your consideration. Carefully selected and accompanied by a detailed presentation. We are delighted to introduce this superb Jaguar MK2 3. 4 L, delivered brand new to Paris on 6 February 1961 by the importer Charles Delecroix, as confirmed by its Jaguar Heritage Certificate. Today, it’s shown in a very elegant, original shade of Imperial Maroon, complemented by Grey leather upholstery—a refined combination, complete in matching colours, that perfectly captures the charm of the era. The car underwent a full restoration between 2010 and 2012: the bodywork was completely restored, with a full strip-down of the shell, while retaining its original colour. Its Imperial Maroon paint—deep Bordeaux red with luminous highlights—admirably underlines the stretched, balanced lines of the MK2. The overall presentation is particularly flattering, with excellent panel finish and very high-quality paintwork. The car presents with not the slightest trace of corrosion.
The front end, instantly recognisable, features its chromed oval grille framed by the four characteristic round headlights, here further complemented by two additional fog lights with superb effect. At the rear, the typical round tail lamps and the discreet MK2 monogram complete a silhouette that has become iconic. The 72-spoke wheels, painted in body colour and fitted with Michelin tyres in excellent condition, add a touch that is both sporty and elegant—perfectly in line with the model’s spirit.
The interior of our MK2 also evokes the absolute elegance of the 1960s. The front seats in Grey leather have been fully reupholstered, while the rear bench has kept a very fine original condition, helping to preserve the car’s authentic appeal. The doors benefit from threshold lighting that activates when opened. The walnut loupe veneerwork, omnipresent throughout the cabin, is in superb condition and creates this luxurious, warm and timeless atmosphere typical of the finest Jaguars of the period, right down to the finely crafted rear shelf areas.
This car is also distinguished by a configuration that brings to mind participation in regularity rallies, including the Tour Auto: up front it has red aviation-style harness belts with buckles, along with a cut-off switch, an extinguisher and a neo-retro radio—discreet equipment, yet clearly present, immediately recalling the car’s intent to combine elegance with spirit.
On the mechanical side, this Jaguar retains its original engine block and cylinder head, making it a true matching-numbers example. It has benefited from high-level preparation and development carried out in England by one of the most reputable specialists in the Jaguar XK engine world. Today it’s equipped with a 4-speed XJ-type gearbox with overdrive, as well as a bespoke stainless-steel exhaust line with a double outlet, which enhances the noble yet sporty note of the six-cylinder engine.
Adding an electric power-assisted steering setup further improves day-to-day usability, making low-speed manoeuvres easier. Braking has been reviewed and optimised with drilled discs, while a limited-slip differential and anti-roll bars complete the car’s road manners.
Under the bonnet, the six-cylinder engine, fed by its SU HD8 carburettors, delights just as much in presentation as in character. The revs build readily—full, satisfying and lively—revealing the expressive, ready-to-go nature you expect from an enthusiast-prepared Jaguar built with real standards.
The engine work included a complete rebuild entrusted to Rob Beere, an essential reference in the world of Jaguar XK engines. Fully documented, this work was carried out with remarkable care and to a particularly high finish level, with several changes that are as discreet as they are effective: increased bore, uprated valves, strengthened connecting rods, a high-capacity oil pump, a crankshaft with a modern seal, 123 electronic ignition … After being set up, run in and then tested on the bench, this assembly reflects truly high-quality preparation—designed to deliver improved performance, reliability and drivability, without ever disturbing the balance or the soul of the Jaguar’s mechanicals.
The file accompanying this car matches the standard of its restoration, with nearly €90, 000 in invoices. We also have a substantial photographic dossier detailing the work carried out. Finally, it’s possible to supply with the car a collection of original parts, including in particular: the Moss gearbox, the original carburettors, and a set of chrome-spoked wheels. Trade-in possible against your classic vehicle. We’re at your disposal for anything…
