Calling all enthusiasts and collectors of the chevron brand. I’m selling my Citroën Xantia Activa 3. 0 V6 (ES9 engine), 1997 model year, currently showing 246, 000 miles in ongoing use.
THE APPEAL:
The Citroën Xantia embodies the ingenuity of 1990s France with its legendary hydropneumatic suspension and exceptional road comfort.
The Activa system, reserved for this sporty variant, offers outstanding lateral stability, virtually eliminating body roll through corners.
The 3. 0i ES9 V6 producing 194bhp, with its metallic-sounding note and proven mechanical longevity, is still able to drive this Xantia with serious pace today—the high-speed road manners are genuinely impressive.
It’s a very versatile car for enthusiasts of youngtimers; it represents the pinnacle of hydropneumatic technology and of Citroën.
Driving this phase 1 version is like going back to the heart of 1990s charm—almost as if the journey paused the clock for a moment.
It’s a rare model: only a few hundred examples are still in running condition.

The vehicle is located in Karlsruhe, Germany (my home), just 30 minutes from the Alsace border (Lauterbourg / Haguenau) and under 50 minutes from Strasbourg. Ideal for a cross-border enthusiast purchase with complete peace of mind.

HIGHLIGHTS & RECENT MAINTENANCE (invoices dossier of +€3, 500 covering 2020–2026):
- Hydraulics (February 2026): full preventative service. LHM change + filter cleaning. Replacement of 4 suspension spheres + the accumulator sphere. Refurbishment of a 4-way pipe/ connector. Careful inspection and adjustment of the system SCAR heights and linkages (the system can level the car completely flat—exceptional road behaviour).
- Engine / Ignition: the legendary V6 starts instantly and runs like a clock. New coil packs and 6 new spark plugs (01/ 2023) plus compression test (excellent).
New engine sump.
Recent oil change in Total Quartz 9000 5w40 with original Citroën/ Purflux filter (01/ 2026).
- Cooling (12/ 2024): new water pump, new auxiliary/ drive belt, and G12 Febi coolant.
- Running gear / Brakes: brakes (discs and pads) and exhaust line in good condition.
Smooth manual gearbox, no snags. 4 Goodyear All-Season tyres on original wheels in good condition.
OVERALL CONDITION:
- Chassis: absolutely no rust or structural corrosion.
- Bodywork: original ‘Nuit Bleue’ (Deep Blue) paint “still in its natural state”. A few light body scratches and the beginnings of lacquer cracking/ bubbling (vehicle is 29 years old).
- Interior: clean original velvet upholstery, seats in excellent condition for the mileage. The air conditioning works and blows cold; the heating also works.
- To note for perfectionists: the headlining starts to peel (classic Xantia issue) and the upper dashboard ventilation grille is slightly loose.
