Description
Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider Touring – 1963
Exterior: White / Hard top: Black / Interior: Cream and black leather
Plethore Cars presents this magnificent 1963 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider Touring.
Bodied by Touring Superleggera, this Spider is the last Alfa Romeo to have been equipped with the legendary inline six-cylinder with dual overhead camshafts.
Original engine, with no engine or gearbox modifications ever carried out — only maintenance and reliability improvements have been undertaken over the years.
The Model
Introduced in 1962, the Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider (Series 106. 01) succeeded the 2000 Spider and became the marque's flagship. Bodied by Touring using the "Superleggera" process — a tubular structure clad in aluminium panels — it stands out for its sleek lines penned by the Milan coachbuilder and a generous 2+2 cabin designed for grand touring rather than pure competition.
Only 2, 255 examples were produced between 1962 and 1965, making it today one of the rarest and most sought-after classic Alfa Romeos, particularly for its engine, the last inline six-cylinder with dual overhead cams from the marque, inherited from the glorious pre-war 6C lineage.
History
First registered on 08/ 04/ 1963, this Spider spent most of its life between France and Italy, with documented mechanical maintenance over more than three decades: steering and suspension overhaul in 1995, windscreen replacement in 1997, the year the vehicle obtained its "classic vehicle" status with the FFVE, followed by work on the exhaust and braking systems in 2005 and 2006, through to a recent quotation in 2024 for the rear window trim.
The current owner acquired it some ten years ago and undertook restoration work: the bodywork was completely repainted and the front seats were refurbished.
A remarkably comprehensive file of invoices and original documentation accompanies the vehicle.
General Condition
The car is supplied with its original hard top in very good condition.
The soft top, meanwhile, shows signs of wear and should be considered by the future owner.
The paintwork, whilst presenting no obvious defects, would benefit from a refresh to restore its full lustre.
