Description

HISTORY
Introduced in 1922, the Citroën 5 HP was the second model produced by André Citroën following the Type A. Conceived as a lightweight, simple and affordable motorcar, it played a full part in democratising the motor car in 1920s France. Produced until 1926, it achieved considerable success with over 80, 000 examples manufactured.

In 1923 came the famous three-seater Torpedo version, whose distinctive layout—two seats at the front and a central seat at the rear—quickly earned it the nickname "Cloverleaf", a reference to its silhouette when viewed from above. This little Citroën thus became one of the most iconic models of the marque's early days and perfectly embodied the spirit of popular motorcars of the interwar period.

Powered by a four-cylinder engine of 856 cc and equipped with a three-speed gearbox, the 5 HP prioritised simplicity and lightness. With its compact dimensions and modest weight, it offered the characteristic driving experience of the earliest Citroën motorcars and remains today a particularly endearing collector's car.

DESCRIPTION
This 1924 Citroën 5 HP Cloverleaf has undergone a thorough restoration and presents itself today in excellent condition, whilst retaining the charm and characteristics particular to this iconic model.

Its history is equally noteworthy: its previous owner acquired it in 1992 and kept it for over thirty years. This lengthy period of ownership testifies to the care and affection lavished upon this motorcar over the years.

With its elegant bodywork, characteristic interior and its singular three-seat configuration, this 5 HP Cloverleaf offers a fine representation of French motoring from the 1920s. An iconic model from Citroën's early years, rare in its design and particularly appealing to enthusiasts of classic motorcars, whether to enhance a collection or simply to enjoy the incomparable charm of a pre-war motor car.
