I'm selling my 1971 Buick Riviera GS, which I've owned since 2004 and have driven regularly throughout my ownership.
This is a genuine Riviera GS, not a standard Riviera simply fitted with GS badging. It still retains all the key components specific to this version: its TA code 455 cubic inch engine with a specific camshaft and originally producing 330 SAE horsepower, its Positive Traction differential with a 3. 42 ratio, as well as the uprated suspension from the Gran Sport package. It also has its original GS badges and specific chromed air filter cover.
Over the past ten years, substantial work has been carried out to keep it in perfect working order: engine rebuild, automatic gearbox rebuild, front end rebuild, shock absorber replacement and a complete respray in the original colour code.
The car has remained entirely in its original configuration, with just two exceptions: pressure gauges were added to the dashboard by a previous owner and the radio was also replaced before I acquired it. Otherwise, the car is faithful to its original specification.
It doesn't have a centre console, which is perfectly correct: contrary to what you sometimes see on certain Riviera GSs, the console and bucket seats were not part of the GS package and remained optional equipment.
Its early history is rather limited, but a few details are known. The car was still in Florida in 1974. It subsequently belonged to the son of Jean Charles Automobile, the famous Paris-based GM and AMC dealer from the 1970s to 1990s, then to the grandson of Éditions Larousse, from whom I purchased it in 2004.
This is deliberately not an over-restored car. It presents beautifully whilst retaining the character and authenticity of a motor car that has been used and maintained over the years.
It is today in perfect working order, drives regularly and is ready to hit the road.
A Riviera intended above all for an enthusiast seeking an authentic 1971 GS, true to its original specification, made reliable and usable, rather than a car that has been heavily modified or over-restored.
