Description
Hello
For sale: BMW 318is E30, the ‘little M3’…
M42B18 engine, 16-valve, reliable and economical, with a reputation that speaks for itself.
Chain-driven timing.
The car is in its original condition and in very good shape for its age.
Exterior:
The paintwork shows a few minor signs of age – it’s a car that’s been driven… but it still looks very good, with just a small spot of rust on the bonnet.
One spot of rust on the bodywork, in the engine compartment (see photo).
I have the 4 BBS wheel covers.
Interior:
Upholstery in very good overall condition.
The dashboard is not cracked.
The speedometer has been playing up for a few weeks; the speed and odometer readings are intermittent. This is a known issue with E30s…
As for the mileage, I don’t have the vehicle’s full history, just the last 10 years, and there appears to be a discrepancy between the mileage recorded on Histovec and the current reading (I estimate the mileage to be around 280, 000 km).
The current odometer reading is 179, 000 km.
I prioritise the maintenance and condition of my vehicles over the mileage, which wasn’t a factor when I bought it.
Engine:
Major overhaul (invoice available), including all fluids, differential seal, clutch, hoses, and replacement of the brake hoses with aviation-grade hoses.
Shock absorber mounts and protective covers replaced.
The car is fitted with an E36 steering rack (information from the previous owner, and an invoice for the rack replacement is available); it is certainly shorter and more responsive than the original E30 steering rack. This makes it a superb car on country roads.
The gearbox was replaced a year ago, after my mechanic dropped a workbench whilst changing the clutch, which damaged the gearbox casing. I can provide a second gearbox (the original one) if the buyer wishes.
The new gearbox works perfectly well.
A reliable vehicle, which has covered around 4, 000 km over the last 10 months, including 2, 500 km in a single week; prior to this, it underwent a major service at 176, 000 km, costing €2, 000.
If you’re looking for a new car, please move on to the next advert.
However, if you’re looking for a sound car (with a few minor rust spots to sort out and a few minor improvements to be made), the price reflects this; you can get a great base car that doesn’t hide its flaws.
A car owned by an enthusiast, being sold simply because I’m moving on, but I’m in no rush.
The MOT will be renewed prior to sale.
Viewings by appointment only at weekends.
I will only reply to relevant enquiries; if the advert is online, it means the vehicle is available.
Kind regards
