Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution (V55W) – 3. 5 V6 MIVEC – 1999
Left-hand drive · UK import · One owner from new
A legend born from the Dakar
At the end of the 1990s, the Paris-Dakar changed its rules: prototypes were restricted, and manufacturers had to enter vehicles derived from production models.
To keep winning, Mitsubishi developed a radical road-going version of its Pajero, intended to serve as the homologated basis for its competition cars.
Thus the Pajero Evolution was born in 1997, built in around 2, 500 examples, exclusively for the Japanese market.
The gamble paid off: Mitsubishi dominated rally-raid events of the era, and the Evolution became one of the most iconic 4x4s ever sold.
Under the bonnet sits a 3. 5-litre 24-valve MIVEC V6, producing around 280 bhp.
It is paired with Super Select four-wheel drive, independent suspension at both the front and rear, widely flared wheel arches and a vented bonnet.
It keeps the rally DNA while remaining usable day to day.
A rare example in Europe
All 2, 500 Pajero Evolutions were built right-hand drive.
This example, imported from the United Kingdom, has been converted to left-hand drive by its owner.
This is a considerable advantage for fully enjoying this model on European roads, and it is what makes it particularly rare on the market.
