Description
Unique Austin Seven, rebuilt in the style of a 1915/ 1920s Runabout or speedster. The body and its floor are of treated, varnished or painted timber. The trim (timber surrounds) is solid brass. The bonnet is aluminium. The front and rear sidelights are period brass units. The front ones run on paraffin and the rear ones are electric, as are the main front headlamps. The timber dashboard is fitted with a working speedometer, a working oil pressure gauge, a non-working clock, and the master switch for starting and for the headlamps and rear lights. The seats are wicker with leather cushions. The fuel tank is a bespoke stainless steel unit, painted and covered in Scottish tartan, as are the lower seat panels and the timber frame of the hood. Full restoration: the chassis was stripped to bare metal, then shot-blasted and repainted. All suspension and running gear, front and rear, was fully dismantled, cleaned, repainted and greased, with new bushes, bearings, fasteners and bolts. The engine was rebuilt before I acquired the car, bored 0. 60 oversize, and opened up and checked (pistons and rings, block rebored, big-end and main bearing shells and crankshaft). 4-speed gearbox plus reverse, in good working order, with the clutch mechanism rebuilt. Radiator rebuilt. Wiring loom remade to measure using period cotton-braided wire. Starting by electric starter or crank handle. Front brakes rebuilt, new cables. 4 new tyres and new inner tubes. New Optima gel battery, 6 V. Mahogany rear locker containing a period Austin handbook (operation, maintenance, technical specifications, etc.), period magazines on the Austin Seven, and a leather travel bag with a leather tool roll (period matching open-ended spanners stamped "Austin"), grease gun, jack, and assorted bulbs. Large photo album of the restoration and build. French collection-status registration document (carte grise) in my name, in progress. No exchanges, thank you.
