Highlights
- A rare Renault Supercinque GT Turbo Phase 1
- The engine has undergone professional modifications to increase performance
- Accompanied by numerous original spare parts
- A splendid example of this extremely fast hot hatch
The Attractions
Renault launched the first hot hatch, the 5 Alpine, even before Volkswagen introduced its Golf GTI. With the second generation, Renault took that already excellent car and improved it even further. It was called Supercinque and proved that it deserved its name: thanks to its featherweight of only 850 kg and Garrett T2 turbine it was extremely fun and extraordinarily fast. In many respects, it had a much more extreme character than the VW sports car.
Today, it is increasingly rare to find surviving examples, which makes this 1986 Phase 1 an irresistible temptation for enthusiasts. It comes in a classic red colour and has the aesthetics of a production car, but its mechanics have been expertly tuned for even more power.
It is in very good condition and perfectly usable. There are some minor purely cosmetic defects, but both the structure and the panels show no major problems. Moreover, this car comes with all the necessary components to restore it to its original condition, thus giving the buyer the choice of how to set up this little road rocket.
The seller told us:
"This GT Turbo is an excellent base for enthusiasts of the model who are looking for a car that is ready to drive but can easily be restored to its original condition, thanks to the components included. It currently represents a perfect balance between mechanical preparation and preservation of originality."
