The Appeal

The Italians know a thing or two about building a stylish machine, and the Benelli 504 Sport is a perfect example.

Offering the mechanical sophistication of an inline-four in a compact, lightweight chassis, it provided a riding experience quite unlike its contemporaries. Today, these machines are genuinely scarce, making any example worthy of attention.
Our 1980 example has been developed beyond standard specification with a Marving or Termignoni 4-1 exhaust system, K&N filters on the carburettors, 100 main jets with needles set to the highest position, and electronic ignition. The vendor reports that these modifications transform the character of the machine, delivering a howl between 6,500 and 10,000 rpm. Its nimble handling is noted as a particular strength, aided by the compact tyre dimensions which lend an agility more commonly associated with smaller-capacity machines.
