The Appeal
In a world in which it is becoming increasingly difficult to enjoy driving, the Mazda MX-5 stands out as a beacon of old fashioned fun. Conceived to be a modern interpretation of the Lotus Elan it has through four versions proved to be the most reliable and amusing sports car ever made. It isn’t the most expensive, it isn’t the most powerful, and it certainly isn’t the fastest car on the road, but it has to be the best value when counting smiles per mile.
This second series (NB1) example is unusual in two major respects. Firstly it has covered less than 18,000 miles (27,959km) and it shows. Secondly it is an automatic which might not be the driver’s choice but in a car with a rev-happy 1.8 it still delivers the sports car experience, and will be easier to live with in traffic. Imported into the UK in 2000 it has been well cared for and is in impressive condition both inside and out.

Summary
There aren't too many modern cars which have achieved quite the level of success enjoyed by the MX-5 and for good reason. As a two seat convertible sports car it is a reliable all round package with no real disadvantages. Adequate rear wheel drive power, automatic gearbox, superlative handling, and a well preserved and comfortable interior will make this lovely MX-5 a very easy car to live with.
