1998 Porsche Boxster, 104000 miles on the body/ 200 miles on the engine. FULL ENGINE REBUILD CARRIED OUT.
Reciepts/ Invoices all Present, V5 Present, HPI Clear. MOT Until December 2018.
Bought this as a Non Runner (Due to IMS failure, which is unfortunately very common with these engines in earlier models as they used a single row ball bearing rather than the later Double angular contact bearings). The Engine was replaced with a low mileage example which has been stripped down to the bare bolts, inspected and rebuilt using GENUINE PORSCHE PARTS as necessary. All components have been measured according to the PORSCHE factory Manual. A list of the Components replaced are below:
-New Bottom end bearings (Main bearings were like new)
-New Cylinder Head Bolts (Both banks)
-New Head Gasket (Both Banks)
-New Imtermediate shaft bearing (Double row tapered)
-New Timing Chain Tensioners (Both Banks and Intermediate Shaft drive Chain)
-New Timing Chain Tensioner Guides (Both Banks and Intermediate Shaft Chain guide)
-New Camshaft Chain Tensioner Guides
-New Camshaft end plugs
-New Gaskets for Oil System and Water Cooling system.
-New Spark Plugs
-New Spark Plug Tube O-rings
-New Oil Scavenge Pump Orings
-Oil Filter and Oil
Other work carried out during rebuild includes:
-Measurement of eccentricity of crankshaft to PORSCHE SPEC
-Measurement of crankshaft endfloat/ Axial Play in Thrust washer to PORSCHE SPEC.
-Measurment of Bottom End Bearing for Ovality/ wear according to PORSCHE SPEC
-Measurement of small end/ Grudgeon pin bearing for ovality/ wear to PORSCHE SPEC.
-Measurment of Pistons/ rings and liners/ Block for ovality/ wear. (Piston rings were well within tolerance so they were not replaced) Compression is between 130-140 PSI on each cyilnder at a slow cranking speed)
-Crack tests with Penetrant dye carried out on both cyinder heads, No cracks found.
-Coolant system Pressurised to 14. 5 PSI above atmospheric, and held for 40Minutes. No leaks found.
-Cylinder heads checked for flatness, well within tolerace.
Other Info:
-The rear screen has been repaired with liquid Vinyl as it was cracked when i purchased the car, and has become 'frosted' but it can be refurbished/ replaced.
BUT IT IS WATERTIGHT!
-The convertible top operates perfectly. The top is in good condition if a little faded.
-There are a few scratches/ stone chips, as the be expected from a car this age, but is is generally very good condition. The interior is like new other than a little wear around the gear gaiter.
-I have installed my own crankcase breather system in place of the PORSCHE factory Air Oil Seperator/ AOL, as they are known to cause issues if they fail. I can give more detail on this if required.
-Front towing eye cover is missing but i think it may be in the front luggage compartment. I will look at getting this sorted.
In conclusion, the work carried out on this car speaks for itself. All of the 'expensive stuff' has been done and it should prove to be an investment to any buyer.
