French collectors' title
Chassis n° 726163
- Engine of highest pedigree
- Elegance and reliability of the model
- Highly collectable and sensational appearance
- No reserve
- From the André Trigano Collection
In 1964, the designer Brook Stevens took inspiration from the fabulous Mercedes SSK roadster to design his first interpretation of the model, built on the chassis of a Studebaker Lark cabriolet. The series 1 model was subsequently powered by a Chevrolet Corvette drivetrain and later by other engines from the General Motors group. The series II version, a rather less spartan roadster, appeared in 1966 and in 1968, this was replaced by a proper four-seater phaëton.
The Excalibur on offer comes from the important André Trigano Collection and has been in the museum in Pamiers since acquired in 2013. He has never had the opportunity to use the car apart from for a friend's wedding and the occasional trip out.
Regularly maintained by Siu, the mechanic in charge of the collection, it will be sold with up-to-date contrôle technique (MOT). The Phaëton is presented in lovely, used condition, with an engine that runs well. The leather interior and thick carpets are in charming, original condition. Excalibur is seen by collectors as a separate marque today. With the captivating sound of the V8 Corvette engine and a magisterial appearance, this car is capable of carrying four passengers in absolute comfort, whether for a special occasion or simply a ride in the sunshine. This is one of the rare examples to be registered in France.
