This Volkswagen Scirocco GLI is only 1 of 8 of this model still on the road today, and only 37 MK1 Sciroccos in total. This car is arguably one of the best Mk1's left.
It was purchased new on 18th August 1980 by Mr. Bullen, from Listers of Coventry and still bears the Listers window sticker in the rear windscreen.
He rarely used it, as he seemed to be based in London, and had the car serviced at Whites VW of Wimbledon on 5th June 1981 (at 4, 080 miles) and a year later on 7th May 1982 (at 9, 301 miles)
At some point during 1982 the car was purchased by it’s second owner, Charles Johnson, who owned it until the end of 2016, though usage decreased throughout the 80’s and the car was mainly stored from the late 1980’s until November 2015 when it was removed from dry storage and put back on the road after refreshment of all important parts (new oil, filters, new cambelt, new tyres and refurbished brakes) and the bonnet sprayed to remove chips.
Mr. Johnson had the forethought to liberally waxoyl the vehicle early in his ownership, which is how it’s managed to maintain it’s condition and avoid the rust issues that affected most cars of this era.
The service book records the following main dealer services during Mr. Johnsons ownership, though servicing continued beyond this but outside the VW network.

The third owner, a doctor from Bedford, and a well known figure in Volkswagen Scirocco circles acquired on the car in November 2016 at 82, 000 miles. He used the vehicle for a number of national events, including a trip to Goodwood Festival of Speed, and owners club events, including exhibiting the car on the Scirocco Register stand at the NEC Classic Car Show.
The third owner also fitted new front shock absorbers and a new battery before selling it due to a need to reduce his rather large fleet of Scirocco’s and generate funds for a house renovation.
The vehicle also chosen to feature in Print in Practical Classics magazine in 2018 in a feature comparing the original Scirocco with the recent model.
I purchased the car in February this year at 83, 239 miles and it’s now got 83, 550 miles on it. This lack of use due to a new job and the need for funds for a forthcoming house extension mean that I’m reluctantly putting it up for sale so someone else can enjoy it as the head had won over the heart.
I’m the 4th owner from new, the previous owner bought it in 2016 and the owner before that had it from 1984.
The second owner used the car less and less, often not using it between MOT’s until he took it off the road and put it in garage storage until 2016, which kept it well preserved at which point he replaced fluids and belts.
The previous owner changed all four tyres and the front dampers, and also purchased (but didn’t fit) Rear mudflaps, I’ve purchased but not fitted rear seat belts, and also Kamei front and rear spoilers. I had it MOT’d in February when I bought it so it’s got most of the MOT left and I’ve probably done 100 miles since (Silverstone and Bicester Heritage trips are all I’ve done)
It’s excellent usable example of a fuel-injected mk1, rather than a concours contender, so there are a few minor blemishes here and there but nothing that requires significant remedial work or is particularly visible. The main issues are that the black paint has come away from part of the sunroof surround on the outside and the headlining has come unstuck around the sunroof aperture internally so needs some attention but doesn't cause the headlining to hang down or interfere with driving the car (I’d planned to just stick it back up, though roof linings are available).
The car still has the original dealer stickers, but it also has a tow bar which I’d planned to remove (it’s easy enough to do) which the second owner used for towing a small trailer occasionally.
I’m looking for £7, 000 for it which is between the Condition 1 (£6250) and Concours (£8500) guide prices in Practical Classics which is an accurate reflection of the vehicle’s originality and condition.
I live in Olney which is 15 minutes from Milton Keynes and Northampton.

• Pumped full of Waxoyl by the main owner (1984 - 2016) which has pretty much halted the usual corrosion.
• New belts, fluids, tyres, front shocks and battery as refresh following storage
Also comes with rear seat belts and replacement rear mudflaps (not fitted yet).
