Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4x4, 1990 ........ This early creation has benefited from long term ownership and has covered just 38, 000 miles from new. First registered by Lindsay Cars Ltd (Ford main agent) on the 11th April 1990 and used by the director, this lovely example has been treasured ever since.
This particular rare example retains factory fitted panels, accompanied by the original date stamps, which are universally visual. Clear wax oil has been applied since its very early days and all the usual vulnerable rust places have been correctly protected and preserved. The un-welded floor pans and chassis can be seen through the wax oil. Note that all the nooks and crannies are still full of wax, including the inner wing lips, original battery tray, floor panels and chassis rails, front cross member, the underside of the wheel arches, inside the boot lid, back panel and all the door shuts. This has ensured the car is entirely corrosion free and remains in an extraordinary state. As can be noted in the photos, the original "diamond white" paintwork has a lovely deep shine and is free from damage. A limited number of small stone chips to the front bumper are completely within keeping with a low mileage and well loved example. All window rubbers and weather strips are excellent , even the original and exceptionally rare Carello headlamps are free from damage. The factory fit tinted glass is free from scratches and the heated front screen is still in place without chips. The plastic rear spoiler is excellent and the smoked rear light lenses and number plate plinth are superb. All original badges are in very good order.
The factory tilt and slide glass sunroof is in excellent condition and has no oxidisation watermarks. All sunroof channels are extremely clean. Supplying dealer rear window sticker and tax disc holder still remain. The RS benefits from the cost option leather Recaro sports seats, which are exceptional and show only a small amount of wear. All door cards are again in excellent condition and free from scuffs or damage. The deep pile carpet is free from stains or excessive wear and the headlining is superb. The dashboard is excellent and has zero cracks (a known issue when the car is left outside for any period of time)the 3-spoke leather steering wheel is in lovely condition. All switch gear is in great order and all electrics and central door locking are fully functional. The digital clock readout is slightly distorted. The original 2008 stereo radio cassette and 2018 7 band graphic equaliser are still fitted and are linked to the original factory fitted speakers. The stock and correct factory fitted 15" Lattice style alloy wheels are in as new condition and remarkably free from scuffs or kerb damage and fitted with NOS Bridgestone ER90 tyres which are fantastic condition. The spare alloy wheel still wears its Bridgestone ER90 tyre and is hosted in the luggage compartment alongside the original jack, and the boot carpet with thick foam underlay remains fitted. With the exception of a stainless steel exhaust system and poly bushes, the car still remains stock and in unmodified form. The engine bay presents in a lovely clean condition and all the correct factory stickers still remain. The underside is excellent and all the running gear is nice and clean and free from any leaks.
The car starts, runs and drives perfectly and stops exactly as it should. It has just benefited from a full service including the timing belt and it really does run and drive superb ! In the last 25 years this cherished example has covered approximately 2, 500 miles in the carefull hands of two mature and enthusiast/ collector owners. It has been stored correctly and for many years has been trailered to and from car shows, it has always been well recognised for its standard and original condition. It has never been prepared to a concours level, it has just been kept incredibly well, and as Ford intended ....... Just beautiful.
Complete with current V5 registration document, 2 original keys, full handbook pack, invoices and some old mot certificates. I have spoken to the few owners/ collectors of the Cosworth, and just to re-iterate Lindsey Ford - Director used the vehicle for 6 months, 1st principle owner cherished the car and it was garaged (a serious car enthusiast) Joseph purchased the cosworth in 1994, an avid Ford collector owning the sapphire an RS2000 and series 1 escort RS turbo - All award winning cars. During Josephs long ownership the car was kept inside a cacoon. David Cunnungham then put the Sapphire into a private collection where it stayed until its recent re-commission a truly stunning, rare and original example of an iconic car !
