During the mid-1990s, VW sponsored three European tours by world famous rock bands, namely Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and Bon Jovi. To commemorate the occasion, three special edition Golfs were launched in very limited numbers, each with alloy wheels, band decals, and a special interior with the band’s name embroidered into the headrests.
The Pink Floyd Cabriolet – as featured here – was based on the range-topping 2. 0 Golf Avantgarde. Specification included an electric folding hood, unique Sound Blue paintwork, sports seats in special Pink Floyd fabric, a CD changer mounted in the boot, BBS alloy wheels, electric windows, power steering, etc.
This low mileage example presents to a good usable standard but would benefit from some light cosmetic attention to really bring it up to scratch, namely to the rear bumper and bootlid where there are some marks and scratches to be found. The lights are all nice and clear and the electric folding soft-top operates exactly as it should, remaining watertight with no damage to the fabric.
Inside, the cabin presents to a great standard although the leather steering wheel is worn and could do with a small surface repair. The sports seats remain in excellent condition with only the lightest of wear to the driver’s bolster; the special Pink Floyd upholstery has worn extremely well throughout and is free from any unsightly rips or burns. In the footwells you’ll find tailored VW overmats still in place.
This charming Golf is accompanied by the original VW document pouch with all relevant owner’s manuals, including the service book with nine VW and specialist stamps. A new clutch was fitted at 59k miles, and the current MOT is valid until March 2021. We have just had the car inspected on arrival for the new keeper’s peace of mind; a copy of the inspection report, along with any additional photos or videos, can be provided on request.
