We are delighted to present for sale this ragtop Series 3, in the most popular colour scheme, Deep Bronze Green with Limestone Wheels & Sand Canvas.
Externally, the vehicle is largely original – the original galvanised cappings survive along with the rear grab handles and wing top mounted mirrors. A new sand canvas has been fitted, and the vehicle sits on 700 tyres which are of the cross-climate style, giving some additional gearing and a good compromise between on and off road ability. A towball and electrics is fitted to allow towing, which is handy should the vehicle be required in this capacity. Coupling all this together delivers a vehicle which looks remarkably standard, with no nasty additions. The bodywork is in good order for a vehicle of this age, with the paintwork being of a spray finish rather than a brush-type which is pleasing to see.
On the inside, the original theme continues – there are three standard front seats (all with seat belts), with deluxe matting to the footwells. The dashboard has not suffered the same sun-cracking that plagues many Series 3s in this price bracket, which is great to see. The rear houses a pair of bench seats, with two belts in the rear – this gives seating for seven occupants including the driver, and up to five seat belted. Two extra belts can be added if so required.
Out on the road, this old girl drives just as she should – aided by the larger 700 tyres, which give additional gearing and lower cruising RPM’s. It delivers a pleasing period driving experience, and has a good turn of speed… this is a well set up unit and is particularly quiet and ‘eager’ to accelerate which gives a nice feel behind the wheel. The uprated suspension gives far increased compliance, and makes for an easier journey for passengers.
In summary, if you are looking for a cost-effective way into Series Land Rover® ownership, then this could be for you. With upcoming tax and MOT exemption, classic insurance and vintage good looks, this should prove to be cheap to run in the long-term whilst appreciating in value – whilst seating the whole family and being ideal for trips at the weekend, towing a horsebox up a slippery field or just posing in your local town!
