Description
For sale is “Wanda”, our beautiful Subaru powered T25.
We’ve owned a few VW camper vans over the last 20 years so knew exactly what was important and what we wanted when we bought her and paid extra to get the best.
She’s a high top, in my opinion the easiest version to own, store all your kit in the roof, no more juggling stuff backwards and forwards or outside (in the wet!). Stop in a layby and put the kettle on, nothing to move, nothing to mess with! Wake up in the morning, put your duvet in the roof, make breakfast, sit outside and enjoy, throw your chairs in the back and drive off. It really is the best option and far outweighs the few downsides of increased height.
The best bit is the Subaru engine. We used to own a 1. 9 78Hp DG engine. Seemed fine on the test drive, however fully loaded with kit and kids it used to struggle a lot, go near any hills, enjoy second gear! None of those issues with a Subaru engine. Not only does she pull like a train, use less fuel, cruises easily at 70mph, she also sounds cool too!
The Subaru donor vehicle was a 1998 Legacy, 2 litre 16V 115BHP engine. When the engine was installed in 2015 the odometer on the van was set to the mileage of that engine. So the current reading of 81318 is the engine mileage, not the van. The van has covered just over 16, 000 miles on the new reconditioned engine, so peace of mind that the engine swap is excellent.
The van has been very well cared for, had lots of welding over the last 5 years for all the common areas that have problems on these vans, now fully wax oiled and she’s good for another 20 years.
This year alone she had £2300 spent on a new clutch, slave cylinder and extensive bodywork/ respraying.
She looks gorgeous in her bright Red and White colours, turns heads wherever she goes and is an absolute joy to drive.

You may be wondering why we are selling her? Well we recently moved back to the UK after a number of years away and we’ve decided to emigrate yet again, clearly not finished our travels, so this summer will be spent house hunting in Portugal so Wanda needs a new owner to take her on her travels this summer and escape the Covid lockdown into the beautiful countryside of the UK.
Serious buyers only please, don’t make silly offers - go and look at a lot of the rubbish out there and then come back to a serious van for serious buyers. You want trouble free, easy camping, so buy a good one. Buy cheap you get cheap, a bucket load of problems, rust, underpowered engines, leaks/ damp and who knows what else.
These vans continue to increase in value, so it’s a no brainer really!
Test drives available, but only if you can prove you have sufficient insurance to cover the van (comprehensive to the value of £12K). More than happy to take you on a 10 mile test route along dual carriageways and through town so you can see that she’s the real deal.
Any inspection welcome, but remember she’s 34 years old with all the charm that goes with it. If you want a sharp, modern, soulless van then go look for a T4 or T5 (with much less space than these T25’s).
She’s all ready to go, buy her today, put your favourite frying pan in the cupboard and go camping for the weekend!
Thanks for looking, any questions please message or call me. We’re based in York.
