Porsche L-program model, Auftragsnummer 964, was unveiled in 1989.
Within Rolf Sprenger's Exclusive Department, variants of the 964 were developed and produced to include the RS 3. 6, RS 3. 8, and a much lighter Turbo. In 1992 the Porsche ‘Special Wishes’ department produced the first ever lightweight Porsche Turbo, the 964 Turbo S ‘Leichtbau’
Over the 964 Turbo, the Turbo S ‘Leichtbau’ produced an additional 61 hp. Modified intake runners, radical cam timing, upgraded fuel injection and ignition timing ensure the Type M30. 69SL engine produces 380 hp at 5, 750 rpm. Maximum turbocharger boost was increased to 1. 0 bar, torque measured 361 foot-pounds at 4, 800 rpm. In terms of performance the vehicle reaches 60 mph in 4. 7 seconds and has a maximum speed capability of 180 mph.
The vehicle is fitted with the MO30 European Sport Suspension package , which lowers the ride height by 25mm. In order to provide greater ‘road feel’ it has non-assisted power steering, a reinforced unibody, stiffer springs, struts, and shocks and larger anti-roll bars at the front and rear. Four-piston disc brakes reduce deceleration times by over 1g.
It is fitted with 3 piece alloy wheels, an aluminium shock tower brace. Front bumper air intakes direct air to the oil cooler and to ventilate the front discs. Inside the car is a fully welded Matter alloy roll cage, RS door cards, Recaro Sport seats and four-point Sabelt competition harnesses.
