For sale is my 1994 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GT. It is finished in bright red, with a beige leather interior. The Trans Am GT was a one year only model for 1994, and was effectively a fully optioned Trans Am. The GT model was designated by the Regular Production Order (RPO) Y83 which this car has. That means over and above the base Trans Am it has a full leather interior, T-tops, high level rear spoiler, 155 mph speedometer, the performance 3. 23 rear axle ratio amongst other options. What the Americans would consider a fully loaded vehicle! It has covered 41k miles from new and was first imported into the UK in late 1996 with 8000 miles recorded, when it was sold by American Car Imports, of Woodgreen, London. The advert from this time has been kept in the documentation. I have owned the car for the last 6 1/ 2 years, and it has listed 5 previous owners from import in 1996.
The car came as standard with the 5. 7 litre V8 engine, designated LT1, which was first seen in the Corvette a few years earlier. This car is fitted with the optional 4 speed automatic transmission, which is very smooth but responsive when it needs to be. It is fairly standard as such, but it has been fitted with a Magnaflow stainless steel exhaust system, which gives it a nice V8 burble but not too loud. Additionally on the exhaust system there is an electrically operated exhaust cut out, which bypasses the silencers, and this is loud (and not for use on public roads). Also fitted is a cold air induction air filter. The car has a stainless steel tubular strut brace fitted between the suspension towers, and an additional uprated brace fitted underneath the car behind the gearbox. It is fitted with 1996/ 7 Trans Am WS6 17 inch diameter alloy wheels, which are fitted with a matching set of Avon tyres fitted in 2019. The car had the Optispark system replaced in April 2013, just prior to my ownership. The interior is beige leather and is in very good condition. The stereo is the original AM/ FM radio cassette with graphic equaliser, which works perfectly. There are two additional gauges fitted on the drivers A pillar. The boot area is clean, and the car still has the spare wheel mounted in the offside rear boot compartment.
The car has a fairly comprehensive history file, from the original advert of it being sold in the UK in November 1996 at 8000 miles, together with receipts and copies of mot’s from 1997 onwards, to corroborate the low mileage the car has covered. Last year (2019) I fitted a new set of Avon ZV7 tyres (less than 200 miles ago) and also fitted two track rods ends (one of which was an advisory for the previous mot). Additionally I fitted a new battery in August 2019. This year in July the car had a new set of spark plugs fitted. In my 6 years of ownership the car has only done 900 odd miles, and during this time has always been kept in a garage. It is obvious from the overall condition of the car that it has always been well looked after. The only fault I would mention is that the offside passenger door has obviously been painted in the past, and has now faded slightly compared with the surrounding paintwork.
I have two sets of keys for the car, locking wheel nut key, original Firebird handbook and the car is mot’d until 23rd November, 2020. The car has done approximately 200 miles since the last MOT in May 2019. If a fresh MOT was required that wouldn’t be an issue.
To summarise, it is a nice looking car in good condition, drives very well, with a documented low mileage and good specification. It is relatively rare being a GT which was a one year only model for 1994. The car is located in Carnoustie, Scotland.
