Rover P4 75 ‘Cyclops’. 1951. 6 cylinder, freewheel, column change. Locally registered car, showing just two recorded keepers in the V5C logbook (change of keeper October 1990). 71, 000 RM. From a deceased estate. Chassis, outriggers, jacking points, vestigial running boards and door posts all solid. One small weld repair to the nearside sill below the B post but that’s all I can see. Bodywork has been repainted at some time in the distant past, but not very well. In places the paint looks to have been applied with a brush. There is filler apparent – mainly in the wings – but it’s evidently been in there a long time. Also, some paint has flaked away from the aluminium door panels. Both bumpers, and the detailing around the central foglamp, have been (silver) painted too. Interior all complete and woodwork is in good condition, but the leather would benefit from renovation. Engine starts easily and the car drives well. Motors along happily at 50-60 MPH, which is as fast as I’ve taken it on the country roads around here. Clutch-less gearchanges using the freewheel are a delight! Electric screen washer fitted, but no power steering. Everything working except the dashboard clock. Original owner’s handbooks, a factory workshop manual and a handful of old MOTs come with it but there is no service history unfortunately. A sticker in the windscreen attests this car was last presented on the show circuit in summer 2019. Two sets of keys. The original / transferrable registration number is included. Free classic road tax and MOT exempt. In summary: a sound, perfectly useable two-owner Cyclops which has great potential for further improvement. A professional respray would transform it!
