For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® Series 2a Ragtop in Mid Grey (1966).

Petrol 2286cc. MOT Exempt. Tax Exempt. Recently rebuilt onto a galvanised chassis. Reconditioned Galvanised Cappings. Free Wheeling Hubs. Parabolic Springs. 750 Tyres.

We are delighted to present for sale this recently rebuilt Series 2a, presented in Mid Grey with sand canvas. This is a rare colour scheme & not often seen in such a high-spec vehicle as this.

Externally, the vehicle has lots of nice touches one would expect of a recently completed vehicle – reconditioned galvanised cappings, a new set of our 750 tyres on limestone wheels, recent canvas, new galvanised bumper, wing mounted mirrors and rear grabhandles. The rear of the chassis is still in its galvanised state, showing the recent nature of the build. The bodywork is straighter than many vehicles of this age and is of a spray finish type that complements the vehicle well.

The interior is largely standard – there are three standard front seats with deluxe matting to the footwells. The twin individual wiper motors survive, which is great to see. The rear is unfitted except for a load mat, but could house bench seats on request for £295 to bring seating up to seven occupants including the driver.

Out on the road, the driving experience is just as one would expect from a recently rebuilt vehicle… the 750 tyres give a higher cruising speed and the parabolic springs give the best compliant ride possible in the period setup. The petrol engine has a pleasing tone too. The addition of free wheeling hubs gives superior fuel economy to standard, and prevents wear to the front axle in 2wd.

In summary, if you are looking for a Series 2a that has been recently rebuilt onto a Galvanised Chassis, then this could be for you. With the benefit of a sprayed finish, new tyres, canvas and re-galvanised cappings it really does look the part. Whilst this is not a ‘nut and bolt’ type rebuild that we conduct at our premises (these retail at £32, 000 plus VAT), this vehicle represents a large saving over that cost – purely for having been run for and used for a while since the time of rebuild. We therefore feel that in comparison to a new nut and bolt rebuild, this represents a really good saving whilst still looking the part and having a good specification throughout.
