A. J. Stevens & Co. Ltd was a British automobile and motorcycle manufacturer in operation from 1909 to 1931. The company was founded by Joe Stevens in Wolverhampton, England. After the firm was sold, the name continued to be used by Matchless, Associated Motorcycles and Norton-Villiers on four-stroke motorcycles till 1969, and since the name's resale in 1974, on lightweight, two-stroke scramblers and today on small-capacity roadsters and cruisers. The company held 117 motorcycle world records.
The AJS Model 31 was produced between 1958 until AMC’s demise in 1966. The model was produced alongside the identical Matchless G12 and produced 35bhp allowing a 100mph top speed. Although they were as fast and as well built (some say better) as offerings from BSA and Triumph, they never quite achieved the same level of desirability – which has made them something of a bargain today and highly collectable.
This bike is a 1961 Model 31 650cc twin, wonderfully restored and in beautiful condition. The chrome and paintwork are in excellent order, it has been subject to a recent service and carburettor rebuild and now runs and rides beautifully and is a first kick starter.
Matching numbers and original, transferable registration number. Ready to ride and enjoy, without faults.
Lots more photographs are available on request including a video of the machine running.
