Hillman Minx/ Arrow Recreation (Overdrive)

The Hillman Minx was a mid-sized family car that Hillman produced between 1931 & 1970. There were many versions of the Minx over that period, as well as badge-engineered variants sold by Humber, Singer, and Sunbeam.

From the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s, the Minx and its derivatives were the greatest-volume sellers of the "Audax" family of cars from Rootes. The final version of the Minx was the "New Minx" launched in 1967, which was part of the "Arrow" family – a new model designed to compete with Ford and Vauxhall.

A LHD version of the Minx was manufacture during this period for the North American/ Canadian market – it took its name from the model range – and was marketed as the “Arrow”.

Gordon Jarvis was Chairman of the Rootes Archive Centre dedicated much of his life to the Rootes Group both through work and as an avid enthusiast. After starting his career as a Rootes apprentice, Gordon never lost his loyalty to the brand and spent his entire working career with the Rootes, Chrysler, Talbot and Peugeot brands. However, it was in his spare time that he promoted the Rootes brand and was one of the most well-known faces in both the classic car and motorsport world as he campaigned his various classic road and rally cars in both the UK and Europe.

However, there was a gap in his collection – the export only LHD Arrow model.

Gordon sourced the best Minx that he could find and converted this to Arrow specification, including the LHD conversion. He struggled with sourcing certain parts (the badges came from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust) but the final result was worth all the hard work – she is super straight and an absolute credit to his marque knowledge and engineering skills.

The car was converted by Gordon to left hand drive and has a 1500 Minx engine, single Stromberg carburettor and highly desirable factory overdrive. The “Arrow” is pristine throughout with super straight bodywork/ chassis, exceptional paintwork and still smells new inside. It drives without fault and regularly travelled to events under its own steam rather than being trailered.

There is a small history file including handbooks etc. with the car and Gordon was more than qualified to competently service and maintain the car himself

The Arrow is difficult to fault and drives superbly. Ready to be used as an exceedingly rare show car, continental tourer (my choice) or simply trips down to the pub we recommend personal viewing to fully appreciate this exception classic.
