Launched in 1954 more refined than the XK 120 and benefiting from engineering changes such as repositioning of the extraordinary 3. 4 XK straight 6 engine and utilising the rack and pinion steering straight from the competition C type jaguar and combined with stiffer torsion bars on the front and telescopic rear shocks replacing the lever type shocks made this a fantastic evolution from the 120.
The car presented here was first supplied to New York in 1956, this outstanding XK140 SE went to Holland in the early 1990s and at that time a full nut and bolt restoration was carried out to the highest standards, with a photo album documenting the restoration including engine, chassis and body. The XK is a complete matching numbers car with a recorded mileage of just over 36. 000 miles and only covered 10. 000 miles since the completion of the restoration. With the same owner for 23 years this genuine SE with C type head was sold in 2016. Work was then commissioned to carry out sympathetic modernisation of the brake system with a disc brake conversion with servo assist along with all new wheel bearings and new spines hubs, new shock absorbers and the cooling system updated with a larger radiator core in the original, the head has been converted to unleaded, ported and polished a lightened flywheel with new clutch fitted and high torque startermotor fitted . A Guy Broard 5 speed gear box conversion fitted. The interior was subject to new bespoke bucket seats with harnesses and upholstery to match original interior. At the same time bespoke inner wheel arches were made and fitted to prevent stones from hitting the wings and a 3M clear wrap was also completed. With the intention of competing in long distance tours and classic rallys the car was also fitted with new fuel pumps and a small 20 litre reserve fuel tank. Finally finished and completing the 2016 London to Lisbon rally without fault the XK was subject to a full and detailed clean and service with new blockly tyres fitted. All the modernisation carried out are all reversible and all the original mechanics along with the interior have been retained including the matching gearbox drum brakes and splines. This XK 140 SE C type is immaculate and all the works have been carefully carried out to make this car perfect to drive in modern traffic and hotter climates along with the 210 hp that it smoothly and effortlessly delivered makes this a true investment that can be used.
