Description

For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® 90 Ragtop in Drab Olive (1986).

2495cc Diesel. MOT with no advisories until 17th September 2021. Immobiliser with lock box to prevent theft. Unwelded chassis. 5 speed gearbox. Recent canvas. 61, 410 miles (98, 831 KM). Aluminium Sliding Door Tops.

We are delighted to present for sale this low mileage ex-military soft top 90, which has the added bonus of an unwelded chassis. It also comes with a long MOT with no advisories, applied before purchase from the previous keeper.

The exterior is largely standard, with lots of military features such as the 750 tyres, bonnet mounted spare, recent khaki canvas, military screw lenses, rear galvanised bumperettes, military bonnet clasps, rear (working) convoy light and Dixon Bates height adjustable towbar. The paintwork is of a typical military type, but better than many we might see. It has a matt/ satin finish, which looks just right for a vehicle of this type.

The interior has 2x outer front seats, with matting to the footwells. The middle is unfitted except for a mat – the immobiliser is behind the middle seat position and is lockable with a secure key to prevent theft. The rear is fitted with a pair of bench seats to increase seating to six including the driver, and a load mat is fitted to the floor to prevent scratches or damage. The front seats have the original military dexion bar, with head restraints, which not only look the part but provide extra comfort and safety for occupants. The hood sticks are of roll-bar type, which anchor the inertia reel seatbelts and give full roll over protection. As this is a military vehicle, it enjoys 2 aluminium door tops with sliding windows, which prevents corrosion.

Out on the road this 90 drives just as she should – The low mileage means it feels ‘tight’ to drive, and with a 5 speed box and coil springs, it rides nicely too. We really like these old military 90s – they tended to be dry stored, low use and therefore survive in better condition than a civilian counterpart. Add into that the flexibility of a soft top for all-year round use and the simplicity of the mechanical diesel engine and sliding windows and it makes for an old Land Rover® that could be kept for a long time without major expense. With classic insurance, low road fund (free in six years time too) and simple maintenance, this should prove a joy to own. Factor into that the unwelded original chassis, and you have a vehicle that, in our eyes, is quite desirable.
