The «Sunny Truck», also known as «Datsun PickUp» was manufactured and sold in South Africa for a total of 37 years after it was launched there in 1971.
The B140 version, with a 1400cc A14 engine, was manufactured until 2008 by «Rosslyn Motor Assemblers», which later became «Nissan South Africa», as «Nissan LDV 1400» (Light Delivery Vehicle) and became known as «Bakkie».
The 1400 Bakkie has seen many developments over its long career. The five-speed manual gearbox, servo-assisted disc brakes, among others, were introduced. The «Bakkie» was only replaced at the end of 2008 by the NP200, a Dacia Logan pick-up renamed Nissan, leaving the so popular rear-wheel drive that gave rise to the slogan «put the power where the load is», for front-wheel drive.
