2003 Mustang Mach 1
MOT October 2021

An outstanding super rare 2003 Mustang Mach 1, 5 speed, in Zinc Yellow with a very low mileage of just over 54, 800k miles. Certified serial #5373 of a build of 9652 and one of only 892 Zinc Yellow vehicles. Only 2003/ 2004 Mach 1 on the market & rarely come up for sale. Car is super reliable, never let me down & wants for nothing.

The vehicle is well known in the Mustang Owner Club GB was entered in the concours section at the 2018 MOCGB annual show where it won its class (1979 to 2004) verifying the sort of condition the vehicle is in.

Vehicle is only for sale as looking to change to a S197 Bullitt or 2007 Shelby GT.

2003 Mustang Mach 1
After the success of the 2001 Mustang Bullitt, Ford launched another "Living Legend" specialty Mustang in 2003 with the re-introduction of the Mach 1 model. Mach 1 offered vehicle collectors and enthusiasts alike a modern Mustang with an infusion of Ford muscle-vehicle styling cues from the '60s. Its functional "shaker" hood scoop was modelled after the vehicle's original shaker hood, and other signature design cues also came from the Mach 1's 1969 namesake, including the logo. These include a matte-black hood stripe, black front air-dam extension, a black rear decklid spoiler, predominate rocker panels, body side scoops and five-spoke wheels. Even some classic colour schemes returned; Mach 1 exterior paint choices in 2003 were Oxford White, Black, Torch Red, Zinc Yellow, Azure Blue and Dark Shadow Grey.
To match its aggressive looks, the Mach 1's 4. 6L DOHC modular engine originally developed for the SVT Cobra featured a dual-bore 57mm throttle body, cast-aluminium intake manifold and a set of new, high-flow four-valve cylinder heads. Exhaust manifolds were port matched to the heads, and specific Mach 1 mufflers were tuned to create a unique sound. Mach 1 was offered with a manual or automatic transmission. New Mach 1 being released this year & sold in UK from spring 2021.

EXTERIOR
The vehicle is finished in stunning Zinc Yellow (available in 2003 only for the Mach 1) with the factory original bonnet stripe with the only non-standard addition being the Mach 1 text around this stripe. Commensurate with the low mileage, the gleaming paintwork is all original & boasts a near flawless finish with absolutely no dings, scuffs or damage except for the odd stone chip (custom vehicle bra used on motorway trips to prevent stone damage). All trim sections are in excellent condition. The underside and all wheel arch apertures are beautifully clean & the vehicle is regularly detailed by myself using high quality products. At the back of the vehicle there are rare “Cobra" rear clusters with amber indicators, a hidden fog light beneath the bumper & side repeaters completing the UK lighting conversion. Original radio antenna has been replaced with a short version & the bonnet now has a gas strut conversion replacing the normal bonnet stay (all original parts retained & come with the car).

INTERIOR
Striking unmarked charcoal black leather is regular treated with ‘Gliptone’ leather treatment with none of the usual bolster wear showing on the front seats with the driver seat having electric adjustment operating seamlessly, as do all other functions and controls. All facia is in pristine order with the addition of MGW billet aluminium knobs to improve the look (originals retained & kept bubble wrapped), and there Mach 1 stainless steel sill plates.
The handbrake and gearshift boots have been replaced with custom leather; colour stitched in yellow to compliment the exterior of the vehicle. The steering wheel has also been recovered to a high standard in leather with the same colour combination by ‘Royal Steering Wheels’ Buckinghamshire & the original headrests have the Mach 1 logo custom stitched on them.
The vehicle carpets are spotless having been protected from new by custom over mats with Mach 1 logo with the boot area in the same condition which has a Mach 1 logo boot protector ensuring the carpet is unmarked. A preserved and superb interior. Sound system is the factory Mach 460 which has an unbelievable sound for a factory system featuring three separate amplifiers, driving a total of eight speakers. Four 6"x8" woofers located front and rear drive the bass and mid-bass, with four tweeters, also front and rear, handling the highs. CD insertion works perfectly which can sometimes be troublesome on the Mach 460 system. A/ C working & blows ice cold.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Under bonnet the area is spotlessly clean with all correct stickers and identification plates in place. The 5-speed manual gearbox is precise with a short throw as there is an MGW short throw shifter (orange handle) + "Cobra Bob" gasket set on the gearbox.
The 32V all aluminium engine differs to the automatic transmission vehicle as the manual vehicles have a forged steel crankshaft. The engine has a C&L intake kit, an MRT hi flow catted H pipe and an MRT 302 cat back exhaust. Tuned by HPP Racing in Texas this delivers 305. 3 RWHP/ 318. 9RWTQ SAE at the rear wheels (dyno graphs available). The SCT tuner will be included with the vehicle. The vehicle has done 54k miles and has been regularly serviced using only Ford/ Motorcraft parts at ‘Redline American’ in Kent who know the vehicle well. Engine & transmission are leak free.

SUSPENSION
Front ARB and droplinks have been polybushed, as has the steering rack bushes. The rear axle is held secure with Steeda aluminium Upper and Lower Control arms. New front & rear shock absorbers were fitted last year as front shock had advisory on the MOT check.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Standard 17 x 8 in 5-spoke "Heritage" wheels (diamond cut polished finish) are in perfect order with no kerb damage. The Pirelli tyres measuring 245/ 45 R17 have good tread remaining. The front discs are uprated from standard with drilled & slotted discs with minimal wear.

HISTORY FILE
Built at Dearborn, MI Assembly Plant on 21/ 5/ 2003, this example was purchased by the previous owner from Bill Utter Ford, Denton, Texas while he was working in the US with all purchasing documentation retained. He imported the vehicle on his return to the UK in 2006. The same owner kept the vehicle until I purchased it in 2016 & he only sold the vehicle as he was going abroad again on another secondment. The original Ford wallet houses all handbooks & there are the original two keys and the master key blade with 2 like new Bill Utter Ford dealership keyrings which adds to the provenance of the car. Other rare information that was kept in the history file is the original 2003 Ford press release literature pamphlets & DVD. In June 2007 the previous owner contacted the Ford Customer Relationship Centre in the US and they sent him information on where the vehicle was built along with a Ford Performance Group Certification certificate adding to the provenance of the vehicle. Original US Window Sticker for the vehicle that has been retained & is laminated for protection. The vehicle has been serviced yearly at specialist garages by both the previous owner & me with all invoices retained for any work undertaken along with all the MOT certificates. All invoices for anything purchased for the vehicle are also present in the history file.

A fabulous opportunity to purchase one of the best low mileage examples available in the UK as they rarely come up for sale. A truly exceptional vehicle. Value will only appreciate as new Mach 1 will bring the older models in the spotlight.

The vehicle comes with a large box of bits, spare fuses, bulbs etc. including all the original items changed. There is also a Ford 2-part vehicle bra, with "Mustang" logo purchased by the previous owner in the US.
