Vehicle History:
The first Porsche with Targa roof was presented in September 1965 at the IAA as a Porsche 911 Targa. In contrast to the fully open Porsche 911 Cabriolet, which was first introduced in the 1980s, there was a rollover protection system (the so-called Targa bail), whereby the resulting "safety cabriolet" met the stricter registration guidelines of the important US export market for Porsche. The front roof part (foldable aluminum die-cast frame with imitation leather cover) could be removed separately and stowed in the boot. From model year 1969 there was a fixed mounted and made of heatable safety glass protective screen in the rear. By 1973, a total of 23, 358 911 Targa and 2, 562 Porsche 912 Targa cars were built based on the "Ur-Elfers", which were sold at basic prices between 22, 380 DM (911 Targa, 1967) and 34, 700 DM (911 S Targa, 1973).
This Porsche 911 2. 4 T Targa was delivered to the USA in 1972. In 2010 it returned to Germany and was restored from the ground up. In 2012 it was admitted to Lüneburg and sold to Düsseldorf in 2013. In 2017, a major engine overhaul was due. This was done professionally and so this component is also as good as new. A very attractive Targa, ready for the next drive.
