We are delighted to present for sale this rare, high specification Series 2a Station Wagon. The vehicle was purchased from a previous customer who loved this vehicle dearly and used it everyday. ‘Daisy’, as she is fondly known, has been maintained and improved without any regard for cost over the course of ownership. This has resulted in a very rare vehicle presented in a remarkable condition both inside, out and underneath.
Externally, there are lots of period features such as the original glass light lenses, bonnet mounted spare, wing-top mounted mirrors, original 3D vintage plates, rear mudflaps with the yellow Land Rover® logo (now an unprocurable item), rear bumperettes and safari roof with alpine lights. The vehicle sits on a set of road-biased 750 tyres to improve gearing and give a positive stance. The bodywork is honest and very straight for this age, as can be seen from the photographs.
The interior is a joy to sit in – there are three recent standard seats to the front, with deluxe matting to the footwells. The twin individual wiper motors still survive, along with the front sun-visors – great to see. A replacement full headliner from La Salle Trim has been fitted at great expense, a photo of which is provided for reference. The heater still survives under the dash, with the twin front demist, particularly handy for cold mornings. The second row houses a recent set of three seats, with matting again fitted to the footwells. The rear is also fitted with twin rear benches, and a heavy-duty load mat to prevent scratching the floor. All of this combined makes for a light and airy experience for all the family. Even the steering wheel has been refurbished, which is wonderful to see.
Out on the road is where ‘Daisy’ really excels – the rebuilt petrol engine is a quiet unit, and pulls strongly to speed. The added bonus of larger tyres and an overdrive make cruising at speed relaxing and quiet, whilst keeping with modern traffic. The front disc brake conversion also gives better stopping power, which is welcome. The further bonus of parabolic springs with uprated pro-comp shocks give as compliant a ride as possible – it really rides beautifully. As mentioned previously, the last owner used this car daily and it really shows – it is the nicest driving 109 Station Wagon we have ever had the opportunity to enjoy. Coupling this with the future proofing done, including the galvanised chassis, bulkhead and front panel, and this vehicle should stand the test of time with ease.
In summary, if you are looking for the ultimate Series 2a 109 Land Rover®, then this is for you. With an incredibly high specification and rarity in current condition, it should prove to also be a very sound investment for the future too.
