Porsche 924S
There’s nothing quite like owning a piece of motoring history, and the Porsche 924S 2. 5 is just that. That perfect mix between sports-car design, superior handling, and the growl of the 2. 5 engine. These Porsches are a fantastic investment, with prices rising all the time, and this car is no exception. There are only 115 left of these much sought after 924S, and an extremely small amount of these are the rarer than hens teeth non-sunroof model.
So, what about this car? Well, what I have here is a 5 owner 1988 Porsche 924S 2. 5 non-sunroof model ( which makes it extremely rare). The car itself has covered only 132, 000 original miles, and presents herself in stunning guards red with black decals, which is the most popular combination for a 924s. She was advertised last year, but Covid 19 put paid to anyone coming to view, so she has been dry stored for just over a year.
The car has undergone a full monty from front to back and top to bottom. She has had a full bare metal, panel off, glass out respray, at a cost of approximately £2900. She has a current MOT until March 2022 and she is structurally and mechanical sound. She has also had a full braking system check, brake fluid changed, new clutch fluid in the hydraulic system, and her fuel lines have been cleaned of any surface corrosion and painted. Her front and rear springs have been replaced, and she’s had a steam clean underneath.
Of course, as you can expect of a car of her age, there are a few very minor imperfections, but as you can see in the pictures, she presents herself very well indeed. There’s nothing that needs sorting out . She’s not a concourse car but she’s not the usual tarted-up junk either. She sits on her original Porsche wheels, which have been refurbished, are virtually unmarked, and set her off really well, and she is wearing a set of 4 very good tyres.
She starts, runs, ticks over smoothly, and drives very nicely indeed. She’s had a complete engine overhaul, which included a new distributor cap, cam tower gasket, timing belt, balance shaft belt, relevant tensioners, rotor arm, plugs and plug leads, and the fuel system has been professionally flushed out and cleaned. She pulls strongly, has no overheating issues, and the oil pressure is one of the best I’ve ever seen on a Porsche. Her cooling system has been drained, flushed and refilled with a quality antifreeze, she’s had a recent service, and her PAS system has also been drained and refilled.
The brakes grab nicely and she pulls up in a straight line, and she has a beautiful raspy sound that comes from her stainless steel exhaust tail pipe. She really is a pleasure to travel in.
Inside the cabin, she sports half leather upholstery, with Porsche script inserts, which has been cleaned and treated, and unlike many 924’s the dash is in good condition, with only a few visible repairs. She has also had a 944 rear hatch fitted with a slightly larger spoiler, and she has a new set of Porsche decals from Porsche themselves.
She now sports a brand new Pioneer mechless head unit, replacing a clapped out old blankpunt, and the headlining, which can be a bugbear with 924’s, has been professionally replaced and is in very good condition. She has no water ingress (another bugbear with Porsche 924s), and ALL her electrics, electric windows and electric mirrors work.
The carpets are original and intact, and she sports a brand new set of Porsche 924S mats which are black with red edging. Friends who travel in the car often call the interior 'immaculate'. It's not - it's how I'd expect the inside of a used and cared-for 32 year old prestige classic to be. Clean, with just a nice degree of patina.
I’ve seen these cars go for between £7500 and £9500 ( even more in many cases, just check Hagerty’s car valuation tool, and put in Porsche 924s, 1988, and you will be VERY surprised at their values), so I’ve put her up at offers over £7350, which is below the average price, ( would have been £8250, but I’ve lost my storage), and, seeing as she has an agreed valuation of £8500 from the insurers ( and they have just sent me the form for a revaluation if I want, due to the value increase), I feel that this is an excellent price for a fantastic car which attracts a great deal of attention wherever it goes, so grab a bargain now.
Obviously it’s not a concourse show car, but it’s generally very, very good indeed ( just accompany me to some of the classic car shows and listen to the comments she receives). It really is amazing the attention this car attracts. She comes ready to drive away complete with some service history, many invoices, mot’s etc and she is ready to use and enjoy by the next owner, and you’ll be able to see that for yourself when you come to view. In March last year, she has had had a top half engine rebuild ( including new head gasket), and she’s also just recently had a fresh MOT, and a gearbox flush and oil change.
Please take your time looking through the photos – I am not trying to hide anything from prospective buyers, and if you come to view, you’ll see that I’m a completely honest man, and don’t forget, it’s always better to come and view a car, as there is no substitute for coming to see the car yourself. In fact, I’ve even placed a link to the workshop that restored the car so that you can see for yourself that I’m not hiding anything, so if you want to see the step by step restoration, please click on this link 944 Spares - Projects or contact me, and I will give you the link to the specialist workshop.
I strongly recommend viewing the car if you plan to buy. I've described her as well as I can. She is sold as seen with no warranty because of her age, and all funds must be cleared before she can be taken. PX possible. I have attached a link/ screenshot showing the current values of these cars, as I have had several silly offers from people who want a show winning concours car for ten bob and a conker. I would also suggest sending a text as well as an email, as I’ve had several email enquires via the web sites Message the Seller, , but when I reply, there’s no further response.
