We are delighted to present for sale this exceptional Land Rover® Lightweight, restored to a high standard throughout. This vehicle was originally sold by us in 2018, where it has seen only 19 miles of use since completion of the restoration (the odometer reads 00019 miles!). As the previous owner has been forced into a move abroad for work, we are now able to offer it for sale once again. Below (above the full advert) is a brief synopsis of the items replaced in the restoration – it is by no means exhaustive and there is a large folder of receipts for almost every item – this is just to help a purchaser understand the level of the restoration achieved:
Galvanised Chassis
Galvanised Bulkhead
Galvanised Front Panel
Unleaded Head
New canvas,
New Tailgate,
New Doors
New Wings
New Bonnet
New Parabolic Springs
New Shock absorbers
All new suspension components
New Wiring Loom
New Brakes
All new braking components including master and wheel cylinders, flexi pipes etc
New gauges (including new odometer)
New radiator
New Hoses and Linkages
New Oil Cooler
New Carburettor
New electric fan (wired to ignition for better cooling)
Externally, this has all the features one would expect of a lightweight – bridging plate, front and rear bumperettes, front lifting eyes, military screw lenses, bonnet mounted spare, NATO hitch, recent canvas, new tailgate etc etc. It stands well, and we believe the combination of all these features make for a very handsome vehicle.
The theme of quality and originality continues on the inside of the vehicle – the heater with front demist (handy for colder days) and the convoy switch are both still present, and the dash is standard throughout. The rear is unfitted with the exception of a rear load mat, but could house bench seats on request for £350 to bring occupancy up to seven seated including the driver.
Out on the road, this lightweight is up there with the very best – it drives as well as any we’ve ever seen, and gives an authentic period driving experience. Everything feels well sorted and sharp – as one would expect after a restoration of this magnitude, and it is a joy to drive. Parabolic springs aid comfort, whilst the larger rubber gives a more relaxed cruise.
If we were to build a lightweight to this standard, the cost of such a restoration would be over the double the asking price of this vehicle. As such, in our opinion this represents fantastic value for money. This would be an ideal vehicle for someone who plans to keep it as ‘part of the family’ for a long period of time, or as someone looking for a strong investment for the future. We have never had the privilege of seeing a better lightweight than this through our showroom at any time – and at almost 1/ 3 the price of an equivalent Series 2/ 3 in the same condition, this becomes a very attractive prospect to purchase. With classic insurance and upcoming MOT and Tax exemption, it should prove to be cheap to run in the longer term also.
