HISTORY OF THE RANGE ROVER
The late 1960’s saw the emergence of the recreational off-road market led Land Rover to come up with a radically new competitor to the Jeep Wagoneer and the Ford Bronco. Land Rover passed on this challenge to Charles Spencer King, under the project title of “The 100 inch Station Wagon”.

It all started when Rover bought a Bronco and noticed the coiled suspension, this boosted the luxury element as it gave improved performance and comfort. He also noted the powerful Buick V8. However, Mr. King gave the Range Rover several unique capabilities, improved carburetors that still fed fuel at extreme angles and the infamous starter handle for emergencies.

It was launched in 1970 as “a car for all reasons”. The Range Rover was also the first permanent 4x4 to do over 100mph whilst having a towing capacity of 3. 5 metric tons, accommodation for five, hydraulic disc brakes to all wheels and the groundbreaking dual-range, permanent four-wheel drive gearbox.

A four-door version was introduced in 1981, with the two-door version phased out in 1994, it was then named the ‘Classic’ to differentiate from the all new P38a Range Rover.

THE CAR
It is with great pleasure that we have the opportunity to bring to market a 1994 Range Rover Soft Dash LSE. This very rare last year production MA prefix vehicle was first registered on the 1st of August 1994 and delivered new by Lookers Land Rover Chelmsford to Brian Cowie who was the owner of the Cowie Ford Motor Group from Essex. Later in 1997 the vehicle was relocated by the Cowie family to Guernsey, likely to coincide with the Cowie Group acquisition by Arriva PLC. The vehicle was issued the registration mark 28054. During its time on the island it was maintained annually by Ruette Braye Motors Ltd and Jacksons Land Rover main dealer along with Motor Mail Land Rover. The vehicle was then later purchased by the second and current owner whilst holidaying in Guernsey during the summer of 2015. It’s since received the same rigorous annual service regime. It’s a delight and a rarity to find such a well-documented and low-owner LSE. The vehicle has since resided in Ampfield, Hampshire. It's truly a very well-preserved Range Rover that has been enthusiast-owned for the past six years. Presented in the fabulous and modern combination of Niagara Grey Metallic coachwork over a Granite Leather interior. Alongside this, it’s fitted with the desirable Brooklands bumpers.

CONDITION
EXTERIOR
The exterior of the truck presents excellently, complete with all factory specified trim. The car has been beautifully maintained and as such is free from any large dents and scratches, in addition all the chrome detailing across the doors and bumpers is in very good condition with all things considered.

PAINT
The car is finished in Niagara Grey, the paintwork has been beautifully maintained. The coachwork is free from major blemishes. There are a few small marks to the paint on the right rear bumper corner, in line with its age and originality.

WHEELS
The car features four completely un-blemished alloys shod with four matching Michelin Latitude Cross 205/ 80/ r16 tires.

INTERIOR
The ‘soft-dash’ interior is finished in granite grey leather. The leather seats have some age appropriate wear and tear, however are free from any tears or rips to the bolsters. The seat bases and uprights are still firm and with all Range Rovers of the period – very comfortable indeed. The rear seats have the added benefit of being ‘high backs’ with centralized armrest.

STEERING WHEEL
The ‘soft-dash’ airbag steering wheel is wrapped in granite leather, it is in very good condition all things considered

MECHANICAL
ENGINE
The 4. 2L EFI V8 in this LSE is the older brother of the original 3. 5L Rover V8; that was first put into the Suffix A Range Rover when the pre-production ‘Velars’ first went out for a test in 1969. The engine runs very well and starts first time on the quarter turn.

GEAR BOX
The automatic transmission drove very well on the test, it goes up through the gears excellently as well as back down very smoothly. The car interchanges between high and low range without issue.

STRUCTURAL
The underneath is a testament to the previous owners, the car is free from rust and corrosion that has blighted so many similar Range Rovers over the years. This is further backed up by the complete photograph album attached. The only visible corrosion is to the bulkhead at the rear of the engine compartment.
