Description

History:
When the Corvette was presented for the first time in 1953, the enthusiasm was so great that production was started immediately. Despite the public's interest, the Corvette was not successful at first because it was more expensive than its competitors. It was not until three years later that sales were good, but the factory did not become profitable until 1958. A top speed of 190 km/ h and a sprint to 100 km/ h in 8. 7 seconds are no longer miraculous values today. In the 50s, this was phenomenal and was surpassed by very few exotic sports cars. The V8 engine with the big carburettor not only brings sheer power, it is also acoustically a feast for the ears. This C1 is one of the first V8 variants and was owned for almost 30 years by a well-known classic car collector and active man in the Swiss classic car scene. Since its full restoration just over 20 years ago, the C1 has been used at many concours and events.

Bodywork and paintwork:
The complete "nut and bolt" restoration from 1992 can still be seen today. The substance of the bodywork and all attachments are in remarkably good condition. The paint has fine hairline cracks in various places and a stress crack on the bonnet, which can usually occur for the first time in fibreglass bodies after about 15 years since painting. Painting the bonnet is the only clearly visible spot repaired, which will be done on request.
The chrome parts are still very nice and unharmed. The windows and glass are near mint and in good working order. The boot is dry and beautifully lined. All seals are in good condition and unharmed. The soft top is used and can be repaired or replaced. Also present is a rare, unrestored hard top.

Interior:
The seats were completely reupholstered and covered a few years ago. The entire interior presents itself very nicely and almost as new.
All instruments are in working order. And as a "gag" there is a functioning radio that is electrically operated and appears as if by magic.

Engine and mechanics:
Those who are not yet familiar with the V8 of a Chevrolet would do well to familiarise themselves with it. Hardly any other engine is as indestructible as the long-stroke engine from the USA. The later fitted 4-speed gearbox (originally only 3 gears) suits our topography perfectly and makes this C1 agile and pleasantly sporty.

Chassis:
The chassis and brakes were renewed at the last MOT and will be inspected again at the next MOT. The underbody is still as clean and undamaged as it was after its restoration. If desired, a fresh wax preservation can be applied after the new MOT inspection, which we generally recommend for every historic vehicle.

Driving experience:
Pure performance, torque in abundance - this also applies to this Corvette V8 with an output of 285 SAE hp. What such an engine, coupled with the optional 4-speed gearbox, can do to the 1280kg vehicle is pure experience. It is in the nature of its American origin that it prefers to show all this power on the straight than in the curve. What an American 4. 4 litre V8 brings with it is SOUND. And with this Corvette, goose bumps are guaranteed - but also at the road traffic office, which is always a challenge despite the existing FIVA passport.

Recommendation:
The good overall condition, extensive documentation including the restoration report and the FIVA certificate make this an honest and sustainable collector's car. The C1 has been a solid value on the classic car market for many years and is an incomparable experience on the road. A Corvette belongs on the road, invites you to stroll around and can also be driven very, very fast. For those who like to be heard and seen, this example has everything that an American classic car lover's heart desires.
