Description

For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® Series 2a Ragtop in Light Pastel Green (1964).

Petrol 2286cc. MOT & Tax Exempt. Galvanised Chassis. New 750 Tyres. New Galvanised Front Bumper. New Canvas and Sticks. 7 Seater. Heater with front demist. Parabolic Springs with pro-comp shock absorbers. ‘Land Rover’ rear mudflaps. Seat Belt Bar with inertia reel belts. Towball and Electrics. Free Wheeling Hubs.

We are delighted to present for sale this galvanised chassis rebuilt Series 2a, presented in popular Light Pastel Green colour scheme, with sand canvas and limestone wheels.

Externally, there are lots of period features such as the vintage numberplates, Land Rover® branded mudflaps, rear grab handles, bonnet mounted spare (new and matching set), wing top mounted mirrors and new galvanised front bumper. The vehicle sits on a set of our own, brand new 750 tyres for a good look and a strong stance. A new canvas is fitted to complete the look. There is a towball and electrics fitted to allow towing. It is pleasing to see that this vehicle has a spray bodywork finish, rather than a brush painted one – as the photos show, it is in good order for its age. In our opinion, the culmination of all these items makes for a real head turning truck – and there are no nasty additions which spoil the period look.

The interior is largely standard, with 3 new standard front seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells. It is nice to see there is a heater fitted, equipped with front demist for the coldest of mornings. 3 point over the shoulder belts are fitted in the front for the safety of the passenger and the driver. It is great to see the fly-screens survive on the front vents. The rear houses a new pair of rear bench seats, meaning there is room for seven occupants including the driver, and the rear floor has a load mat fitted to protect from scratches and damage.

Perhaps where this rebuild stands out from the crowd is on the road – the petrol engine is a sweet unit, and pulls strongly to speed. The larger 750 tyres afford a more comfortable cruise by extending the gearing ratios, whilst the free wheeling hubs increase fuel economy and reduce axle wear. A set of parabolic springs are fitted, along with pro-comp shock absorbers…this gives the best possible ride in the standard format, and it rides fairly comfortably (for a 1964 Land Rover®!). As this vehicle has been rebuilt, it has a very well sorted and ‘tight’ feeling on the road – it really is a joy to drive and provides a pleasing period drive, aided by the extras mentioned.

In summary, if you are looking for a Series 2a, rebuilt on a Galvanised Chassis, then this could be for you. With the bonus of MOT and Tax Exemption and classic insurance, it should prove cheap to run in the long term – whilst the galvanised chassis prevents the new keeper from needing to worry about imminent corrosion, and the upgrades underneath allow the best possible period driving experience. It is very uncommon we get all of these items in one vehicle – especially in such an attractive colour scheme.
