The Lotus Seven was launched in 1957 to replace the Mark VI as an “entry-level” model for Lotus. The name Seven came from a project for the F2, with a Riley engine, abandoned by Lotus in the early 1950s. Externally similar to the Lotus Mark VI, but with a different tubular structure and derived from the Lotus Eleven, the Seven used a Ford engine of 1, 172cc and 40 horses. It was widely used both on the road and in competition.
In 1970, with the introduction of the Series 4 (S4), Lotus would radically alter the design of the Seven, making it a little more conventional, with a more square-shaped fiberglass body and replacing most of the old car body. aluminum. The S4 was available with two Ford engines - a 71 horsepower 1300cc and an 87 horsepower 1600cc, as well as a 115 horsepower Lotus Twincam engine.
