1953 Vincent Comet Series C for sale
Great opportunity to purchase a high specification Vincent Comet which I have owned and enjoyed riding for the last 24 years. During my ownership I have carried out several upgrades to enhance its performance and improve reliability maintaining original Vincent specifications where possible.
I purchased the bike in 1997 having covered around 400 miles since receiving a complete restoration to factory specification by the acclaimed Ex Works Vincent employees Jack Furness and Alf Searle. The bike was the best example I had seen during many months of searching for a Comet
I have a hand written comprehensive 4 page invoice listing all parts and services completed during the restoration by Furness and Searle plus invoices for all new parts and services purchased from Conway motors and Ron Kemp (Vin parts international)
Upgrades carried out during ownership using NEW high quality parts
Vincent Black lightning/ Grey flash alloy vented front brake back plates – Conway Motors
Vincent Black shadow ribbed front brake drums – Conway Motors
Front brake shoes with oversize 242 linings turned to fit new black shadow ribbed brake drums – Conway Motors
Front brake outrigger stiffening kit with extra heavy duty cable
Front a rear adjustable Koni hydraulic suspension dampers
Conway Motors clutch conversion. This made a big improvement with the easy selection of gears and no drag
Cylinder head rebuilt by Ron Kemp with lead free valves, seats and modified guides to enable fitment of valve stem seals
Cylinder head inlet tract ported to accept 32 mm carburettor by Ron Kemp
New barrel (Liner and muff) assembled bored and honed by Ron Kemp
Omega forged squish piston as recommended by Ron Kemp
Mk 2 cam shaft, Cam followers and pushrods
32 mm Amal MK 2 carburettor
The above engine upgrades are to Grey Flash specification and transformed the engines performance, the bike now pulls the high gearing and climbs hills with ease unlike the standard Comet which I found to be disappointing.
BTH self-generating electronic magneto supplied by Tony Harris
Centre stand kit supplied by Dave Hills
New front and rear Avon tyres fitted, oil and filter replaced plus spark plug and ethanol resistant carburettor float only 500 miles ago prior to using the bike for a VMCC weeks riding in Wales.
During my period of ownership the bike has never let me down or encountered any failures.
The bike has covered 5000 miles during my 24 years of ownership and has been 100% reliable The Comet has mainly been used to attend VMCC runs including being transported and used in the Isle of Man on 4 occasions whilst spectating at the Manx Grand Prix.
The upgrades I have made to my Comet over the period of ownership have transformed the bike making it easier to operate and a joy to ride on today’s roads.
