Having spotted this for sale whilst working in Dubai as part of a private collection, I chose at great expense to purchase and bring it back to the UK to enjoy throughout the summer. Unfortunately, with more time away planned - the bike simply won’t get used to its full potential, and it'll simply be such a waste to store away for more years whilst an enthusiast can cover more miles than it ever would do tucked away in the back of my garage!

Key Facts About The Bike:
Built in October 1989, it was imported to Canada from Japan in 1990, and later moved to the UAE in a private collection where it was last registered. It has since been imported to the UK with fresh NOVA confirmation on file, confirming that all UK import taxes and duties have been paid by me soon after it arrived. The next owner will be responsible for UK registration if desired and is entirely ‘Ready To Go’ as the first registered owner with simply an MOT needed alongside forwarding across the paperwork to receive an age related registration number from the DVLA.

Accompanying the bike is a Yamaha Canada provenance certificate, plus a previous Dubai ownership document for further reassurance and authenticity.

The bike has been customised with unique livery by its previous owner with a superb painter with the tank and bodywork finished in custom Kenny Roberts style ‘Speed Block’ white pearl / red and black paintwork with lacquered decals, but which otherwise appears to be highly original with a great level of patina maintained and certainly not ‘over restored’ as per others you’ll come across advertised, maintaining areas such as its original factory bright blue finish frame etc which only adds to it’s special character and kerb appeal!

Visual Condition
The paintwork is generally in excellent condition with a deep pearlescent base and accurately applied OE decals, which have been professionally finished in lacquer. Other than a few small areas of cracking in keeping with any other bike of this age with brittle plastics. It appears through its paint restoration; important parts were reworked to avoid any further splits or cracks. There are no major marks on the main panels or tank, and the frame and exterior trims are in good order.

Mechanical Condition
Since arrival in the UK, the fuel system was briefly cleaned, a new air filter fitted, and the spark plugs and engine oil have been changed. The brakes were serviced, though the pads appear to be very recent. New tyres are also fitted, and replacement indicators were converted from Canadian specification (where it was sold new in 1989) to meet UK legal requirements ready for an MOT.

Soon after the brief recommissioning, I listed it on Collecting Cars in a ‘needing further recommissioning’ listing although since it’s listing over Christmas, with a change of plans with work - I’ve since managed to find time to further clean the fuel system properly with all new jets, various new fuel/ breather hoses etc alongside some time to set it up. It’s now a great running bike (as you’ll see from the embedded video below alongside others that are available) so, I’ve chosen to relist via eBay now in this ready to ride condition to further improve it’s desirability to potential bidders!

I’ve since undertaken around 10 miles of riding (on private land) and can confirm it’s an absolute cracking bike to ride and will only improve further with some more use.

Equipment and Features of The Yamaha TDR250
- The TDR250 was developed by Yamaha’s engineers as a true multi-purpose bike, capable of refined on-road driving as well as having impressive off-road agility. It was pitched as the ‘ultimate dual’ sport, with the slogan even appearing as part of the livery on the bike.

- The engine, shared with the TZR250 race bike, features the YPVS (Yamaha Power Valve System) that constantly optimises the exhaust timing to provide greater power over a wider rev band.

- Its engine is the matching-numbers 249cc parallel twin two-stroke producing up to 50hp, coupled to a six-speed transmission.
It has a road-biased double-cradle tubular steel frame chassis, with adjustable telescopic forks at the front and a single shock absorber at the rear.

- With a dry weight of around 134kg, it is a true lightweight, making it a manoeuvrable adventure machine.

Summary
Overall, whilst very sad to see the bike find a new home – I’ll be more than pleased to see it land in the hands of an enthusiast to enjoy on Sunny Sunday’s at the local bikers pub with 100’s of happy attendees pouring over it!

I’ll be more than happy to provide any further details, images, videos etc for any potential bidders or purchasers.

I’m based in Nottingham and will happily accommodate collection upon arrangement or even nationwide delivery if required (at a pre-agreed expense to cover costs)
