If you are a fan of Motorcycle Racing and Road Racing in particular, the Dunlop name is one you will be very familiar with. Joey was voted the fifth greatest motorcycling icon ever in Motorcycle News, behind Valentino Rossi and Northern Ireland's Greatest Ever Sports Star.
Arguably the greatest road racer of all time, Joey Dunlop’s career was littered with highlights and stunning achievements and wherever he went, races were won and records broken.
From his record 26 wins at the Isle of Man TT to his 24 victories at the Ulster Grand Prix, or from his five World Formula One Championships to his countless national road race victories, Yer Maun did the lot.
The Ballymoney publican’s International race victories spanned an incredible 23 years with his Formula One TT victory in 2000, at the age of 48, considered to be one of the very best, if not the best. His untimely death in 2000 left not just a sport in mourning, but an entire nation. Northern Ireland had lost its favourite son at the time, and the sport had lost one of its greats.
This great wee bike does have some racing heritage, it was raced by Jimmy Rodgers from Killinchy at, amongst other places, the IOM TT, the NW200 and the UGP, before being stripped, resprayed and having the livery applied by the very same person who put the graphics on many of the Dunlop's bikes over the last 30 + years.
The bike is in fantastic condition and would be an ideal addition to any collection or man cave with it's small size and relative lightness.
