The SO models were special order buses, which had a variety of different specification options depending on the number. The SO42 and SO44 models have long been the most sought after, featuring a small Fibreglass pop top roof with the classic yellow Westfalia canvas. This rare and beautiful bus has spent the majority of its life in the USA before more recently being imported to the UK.
No expense spared restoration completed. This has involved the entire shell being stripped of every single component before being acid dipped to get it to bare metal. With every piece of metal work then visible it was decided that brand new rear corner panels, long panel, short panel and also the renewal of the cab and cargo floor areas would be replaced to ensure the metal was 100% rust free prior to paint. After the entire shell has been primed and painted in popular and year correct original ‘Velvet Green / Beige Grey’.
The paintwork has been carefully prepared to a glass like finish throughout the bus and the entire shell including the underside of the vehicle is absolutely spotless. The original Fibreglass rooftop restored and fully refitted also.
After the enormous workload, restoring the shell was complete, the refit began. No expense has been spared and as such a brand-new 12V wiring loom & fuse box has been installed. Every single salvageable original component has been carefully cleaned / refurbished and sympathetically refitted to the bus to ensure that it retains its originality for decades to come.
The 1600cc engine has been stripped down, reconditioned and installed into the vehicle and runs beautifully.
Brand new Red 9 Design rear end installed including IRS (independent Rear Suspension), Recon IRS gearbox, Rear disc brake conversion and dropped spindles on the front with front disc brake conversion also meaning disc brakes all round. Bespoke wood rim steering wheel. Fire extinguisher and automatic engine bay fire suppression system for peace of mind.
The bus has had a bespoke interior installed that features a full width rock n’ roll bed (Best on the market) with new bed cushions. Fresh upholstery throughout in coffee beige vinyl.
