The 5. 4 litre supercharged AMG line sent many car brands back to the drawing board in a thoughtful manner. Mercedes itself also had to scratch behind the ears; the engine delivered so much torque at the bottom, that weight was needed on the rear axle to perform. Something the SL missed, which made the E55 faster! Given the price difference, that was not the intention. So power was reduced with just under 40 horses. But don’t let that affect you for too long; she still goes to 100 in 4. 5 seconds, making it the fastest sedan in the world!
Thanks to its beastly power it was also the first car that we admit may have helped us a bit with a few computers on board! Even with dry weather, the flickering TC light lets us know that she is ready to get in on the highway. With or without a 20 meter stripe, that depends on that tempting button… Push if you dare!
And then there’s the luxury that many brands forget when they bring the sporty version onto the market. Mercedes; it can do that… A cup holder that opens itself in two steps, designed by a watchmaker. A sliding roof with special ‘light inlets’, so even when closed, sunlight seeps in. And the air suspension, adjusted by AMG itself. Three positions; touring, serious sport and kidney strap position! Seat heating to seat cooling… All aboard!
And then there’s ours… Few kilometres, Arrow Silver, every possible options and a set of summer wheels that can be compared to a woman’s stiletto heels. Striking, challenging, a bit vulgar, but sneaky, very tasty… Will we see you soon?
