Description
This is my Renault 11 Turbo which I’ve owned for about a year and 6 months. If you’re looking at this advert, I don’t need to tell you how quick, rare and special these things are. It’s not a cosmetically perfect example, but in terms of solidity and mechanicals it’s right up there.
This is a genuine low mileage car with only around 78k on the clock. The speedometer did pack up during my first week of ownership so I fitted a new old stock unit at vast expense, and I still have the original unit backed up with previous invoices to prove mileage. I have done a fair bit of work to this car during my ownership including:?
- Welding on the O/ S front inner sill and floorpan - metal cut out and replaced not patched
- Welding to the N/ S door check strap mounting
- Left and right lower engine mounts
- A full service including valve clearances, plus two oil and filter changes
- O/ S outer CV boot (stripped down the shaft and fitted a proper OE one)
- Steering rack gaiters
- All new underside metal fuel lines
- All brake flexi’s and front solid lines
- Front anti-roll bar end bushes
- Starter motor
- Fuel pump relay
- Coolant fan switch
- A brand new genuine radiator had just been fitted prior to my ownership
Since I did all this work, the car has been an absolute hoot to drive. Genuinely very fast, yet solid with no knocks or wandering and sticks to the road like a go-kart. It’s also never broken down, and the only time it failed to start was when the starter motor gave up. Thankfully the car was at home!
There are some non original parts on the car which were fitted previous to my ownership. Obviously the Renault Speedline wheels is one of them, and the exhaust is a custom made unit which looks very much like the original, but loud. I imagine this was done when new systems weren’t available, but they are now so the standard one can be purchased and put back on if you wish.
Cosmetically the car is useable, but not great. Pictured, there are some very small localised external rust patches which have been touched up prior to me on the roof, O/ S rear wheel arch, N/ S lower quarter, bottom of the windscreen and both doors above the check strap area (fairly common). There is a dent in the tailgate from where someone lightly tapped it with their car while reversing. Unfortunately being an old Renault the panels are made of tin foil, but it’s liveable and I do have a spare tailgate which can go with the car if desired. One of the sill end caps is missing off the car but I do have one to go on, but it needs painting which I don’t have time to do. This will be included in the sale of course.
Ideally the car could do with a proper re-spray if you wanted it to be concourse, but right now it’s just very useable and turns a lot of heads. It looks like the car has been ‘blown over’ in the past, which has been done to a high standard, but you can only go so far with a blow over.
Electrically, everything works but the oil level/ pressure gauge can be erratic. Also, the anti-perc fan (carburettor cooler) gave up, but was later told this was very much a good thing. Apparently they were responsible for a lot of fires, so I disconnected this. It takes slightly longer to get going when hot now, but literally no worse than any other downdraught carbureted car hot starting.
I have the full book pack with the car, and this includes lots of history and invoices dating back to the 80’s. I even have the pre-delivery inspection sheet. It looks like this car was off the road for a number of years between about 2006 and 2018, but was re-commissioned by the previous owner.
Genuine reason for sale, this being I’ve done the quick Renault thing now and fancy something else. Car is located in North Dorset. Feel free to contact me for any more pictures or info.
