Footnotes
Premiered at the London Motor Show in October 1998 was one of the most elegant of modern day Aston Martins: the long-wheelbase Volante. Built on a wheelbase not shared with any other V8 Aston, this longer Volante benefited from a 200mm stretch that increased rear passenger legroom and luggage space. The last production Volantes built at Newport Pagnell, these cars came with a quoted 354bhp on tap; the factory claimed a 0-60mph time of 6. 2 seconds and a top speed of over 150mph, making the LWB Volante one of the world's fastest soft-tops. Given the £169, 500 asking price, it is perhaps not surprising that by the time production of Aston Martin's long-running V8 ceased in 2000, only 64 of these exclusive, last-of-the-line Volantes had been built compared with 234 of the standard shorter-wheelbase version.
This automatic transmission LWB Volante was supplied new by Aston Martin dealers JCT600 in Bradford and first registered on 8th January 1998. Alpine satellite navigation; parking sensors; four-wheel antilock brakes; cruise control; vehicle tracker; and 18"x8. 5" wheels were factory fitted options. The first two owners are not known but in July 1999 the Aston was registered to Mr Andrew Cohen of Shenley, Hertfordshire, passing to the immediately preceding owner, Mr J Edward K Smith, in May 2004. The current owner purchased the Volante via brokers Byron International in January 2011 and subsequently exported the car. The odometer reading was recorded as 26, 350 miles on the advert, however this does not tally with the MoT history (which is linear, and also ties in with the service history noted in the previous advert on file). As such it may be that the mileage was incorrectly noted by the selling dealer. Since acquisition the Volante has been on static display and will require re-commissioning before returning to the road.
Finished in the perfect combination of Galloway Green metallic with magnolia leather interior and black mohair hood, the car comes with copies of the 2011 purchase invoice, old V5C registration documents and MoTs, plus a list of services carried out between 1998 at 275 miles and 2008 at 15, 750 miles. The car was last MoT'd in May 2010 with 16, 788 miles recorded. The current odometer reading is 16, 865 miles. A rare modern Aston Martin destined for future collectible-classic status.
