Description
(XJ6 series I based)
The Daimler Sovereign was the first range of Daimler cars to be based on Jaguar platforms and this 1973 model is based on the XJ6 series I.
During the late 90's the car was committed to be restored at Classic Restorations (Scotland) Ltd where it was resprayed in the original Greensand colour and received extensive and thorough restoration work to the running gear and engine. Work was stopped mid way and the car sat in dry storage for a number of years before the present owner purchased it as an unfinished project and had Classic Restorations bring it to completion.
The original 6 cylinder 4. 2 XK engine provides plenty of power and runs smoothly, the gearbox is the manual 4-speed-with-overdrive option which operates quietly and without fault.
5 matching Avon radial tyres are fitted to aluminium wheels taken from a mk2 Daimler Sovereign which was an aesthetic choice by the restorer.
The interior has been retrimmed in handsome dark blue leather and the carpets and floor mats have matching leather beading. The dash is perfect other than a small area of lacquer missing around the steering column (2cmx2cm).
There are some very minor bubbles (smaller than 5mm) in the paint on a couple of swage lines and at the front corner of the drivers door.
The original tool kit is present and complete.
Receipts for the restoration work carried out exceed five figures and are available for interested parties to view.
After a little use the car again sat in dry storage from mid 2018 until may 2022 when the decision was made to sell.
In preparation for the sale it has received oil and filter, air filter, spark plugs, points cleaned and adjusted, a new fuel filter has been fitted and both tanks completely flushed of old fuel and refilled.
We have had the local garage carry out an MOT, for your peace of mind, which the car has passed with no advisories.
Driving the car is an enjoyable and head turning experience, it should provide many years and many miles of trouble free motoring in style and comfort.
