Description
The VW Beetle was conceived in 1925 by Austro-Hungarian inventor and father of automobile passive safety, Bela Barenyi. Much like the insect, Belaryi's creation was engineered with adequate consistency to survive through all hardships to a production of 21mi units over a 65-year span. Despite being materiarized by Ferdinand Porsche, it wasn’t until coachbuilder Wilhelm Karmann decided to reveal the Beetle’s inherent elegance that the Cabriolet was created. The full open top experience was augmented by a lavish interior of dual map pockets, vanity mirrors and ashtrays and supported by a strengthened body of U channel rails, double wall cowl panels and rear seat transverse beam.
The Beetle Cabriolet offered was produced in late 1964 to feature the 1. 2lt engine and dispatched to its first owner in Athens, Greece. It benefits from all 1965 model year upgrades including high engine compression, better cooling, synchronized 4-speed transmission, revised master cylinder, larger windows all around, fuel level gauge, better heating with revised levers, compressed air windshield washer, proper indicator lights, larger rear legroom, push-button engine lid and redesigned wheel cylinders. In 1998 it was acquired by a marque collector who decided to conduct a no-expense spared restoration with strictly VW-supplied parts. Eleven years later, its authenticity was inspected and certified by FIVA in Athens, Greece to complement the factory provided certificate of authenticity. This all-matching numbers, original 1965 Beetle Cabriolet is now offered FIVA registered, fully certified and comes with complete ownership and registration history.
