Description
Bought just over 3 years ago as a project covered in soil and dust from a barn in Nottinghamshire.
This bike was obviously loved at one time, I have a folder with a huge wad of information on the bike and it’s travels.
I bought it barely running and wearing huge crossply car tyres.
Since then I have spent a fortune on it as follows. It’s now all finished and ready to go to fund my next project.
This is not just a catalogue custom, many parts are one off custom fabricated and many are from vintage cars and the like. If you like your Harley’s old school cool, bikes you actually have to ride rather than just sit on, then this is it. A 100% unique and genuine classic Harley with the looks to match and it goes well too!
Engine work completed include brand new 1340 cylinders and pistons. Reconditioned heads with new valves, springs, guides etc’. Full gearbox rebuild by John Gibson just completed. Karata clutch/ tamer and belt drive fully reconditioned with all new bearings, plates, belt etc’. All work completed by my local HD specialist to a very high standard. Every nut, bolt and thread has been attended too, nothing was overlooked. Now done just over 300 miles so still running in.
Brand new twin Mikuni carbs from Cyclex in the US. A fantastic carb set up that produces a lot of torque, starts on the button and runs really well. Custom made twin Triumph style vintage air filter set up. Brand new exhaust, battery, master cylinders and brake lines, fuel tap and fuel caps, Shinko tyres, starter motor and gear rebuilt, new chain and sprockets, all brand new gear change linkage/ shifter, cables and a million other minor parts.
Set up like an old US police bike with rocker clutch (NOT a suicide clutch) and a hand shift (NOT a jockey shift). Really easy to get along with, a rocker clutch is a great thing once you master them despite what many folk who can’t use one might say. Pulling away, hill starts, trickling through traffic are all an absolute doddle with this set up.
Starting is on the money with a chrome lever start that replaces the sometimes troublesome standard solenoid. The kickstart works great too and will not normally need more than two prods to get her going wether cold or hot.
Headlight is from an unknown vintage French car. Tail light is a genuine Lucas unit with a glass lens from the early 1930’s. Brass horn is from a vintage 1950’s car as is the rear view mirror. Louvered rear guard is a one off custom built unit in steel. Pogo seat is replaced with the same saddle on an adjustable threaded mount and mini shock springs at the rear all mounted onto custom steel brackets. Fuel tank striping and logo are all hand painted. Endless custom made nuts, bolts and fastenings in stainless steel and brass.
As I said at the top this is a totally unique one off authentic old school shovel that goes as well as it looks. On the road it’s quiet, very comfortable with a good ride and even at small throttle openings pulls really hard. You could easily ride this all day long. Find another custom Harley like that!
I have the V5 in my name showing all correct details, historic vehicle. 1340 etc’. Imported into the UK in 1989 and showing 6 former keepers. Vin 2A31485H9.
As much as can be expected from a 45 year old bike this is as genuine and solid as it can be and needs some miles putting on it. I am not interested in PX or dreamers with no money and I certainly won’t take silly offers. Shovels are going up at an alarming rate and you could not build this for the asking price. PLEASE don’t waste my time folk!
