I acquired the Morris recently from a friend who was clearing one of his outbuildings. Yes, he knew it was there of course but in my opinion this constitutes being described as above as it has remained undisturbed for over 20 years.
It was offered to me as I find it difficult to turn down anything old and/ or interesting and this definitely fits the bill.
The thing that sets this car aside as a potential project for someone who may be in the market for one is just how well preserved it and original it is. Not known for their ability to repel tinworm this example is solid as a rock in all of the usual places and as far as I can see hasn’t been welded. Additionally it’s showing a mere 29, 000 miles and only two previous owners.
I completed a HPI just to check and as expected this is all clear and the V5 is present.
The interior is also remarkably well persevered with no rips or tears in the upholstery. Even the headlining is in remarkably good order.
After acquiring the car, knowing I probably wouldn’t hang on to for long I assessed how best to proceed and decided to get it rolling and running which is exactly what I’ve done. Both front tyres were perished so these have been replaced (rears will of course be needed at some point), as has the battery and after rigging up an auxiliary fuel supply, following a small amount of fettling the little Morris fired into life for the first time in over 20 years and ran sweetly! I have a short video of the motor running which I can forward to anyone who has an interest. I’m well aware this isn’t a pre-war Bugatti but nonetheless I’ve resisted the temptation to clean and polish, preferring anyone considering taking on this eminently worthwhile project to see it as it came out of its resting place. I would add however that it seems the starter motor has given up the ghost so that’s an early item for the parts list! I purchased a service kit but not sure I’ll get around to that, if not it’ll go with the car.
I really can’t stress enough how good this car is as a potential project so if you’re in the market I strongly advise you give it consideration.
