Offered for sale is my 1998 Rover 216 Cabriolet. The car was originally purchased locally as a joint lockdown project for my dad & I. My other cars took priority & my dad then took ownership, using it as his weekend car. More recently he's struggled to get in the car due to age, so I've bought it back off him. As much as I'd love to keep it, I currently own 3 more cars, one of which is a convertible, so don't drive it as much as i should.
Anyway, more about the car. It's a 1998 216 cabriolet with 49k miles (nearly 50). It's MOT'd until June next year (sailed through, originally failed on emissions, but after a blast - it had done 4 miles since last MOT - it passed).
Good points:
- Low miles
- Long MOT
- Electric roof works - we actually replaced the original roof over lockdown with the tan one. In my opinion it really suits the car, better than the original black one
- Runs and drives very well. Goes through gears fine, tracks straight and true, brakes work fine etc
- Recent discs & pads
- Recent service (home service)
- Interior very clean with everything working as it should
- Good tyres & nice alloys (the later Rover 25 ones look good on it!)
- No HGF signs. Gets up to temp fine and uses no water. No milkshake/ sludge (previous owner changed head gasket & timing belt at same time - no proof of this mind).
Bad points:
- Clutch is high, but drives fine and does not slip at all. Could be a characteristic of the car, but higher than my other cars
- Slight belt whine upon start up.
- Arches have previously been tidied up. Some rust bubbles coming through (i have photos which i can send to show this in better detail)
- Whilst we changed the roof & it works electrically by itself, it does need a bit of fettling to make perfect. The inside lining of the roof doesn't sit tidy with the roof when folded. Still works fine mind & can enjoy the million miles of headroom :)
- Age related marks to be expected.
All in all a lovely little car, if i didn't already own a convertible i'd keep it. Comes with handbook, haynes manual, tonneau cover & 2 keys. Full V5 in my name.
Ideally i'd prefer a straight sale, but as i'm a bit of a car nut, i'd be open to a trade for something interesting (i love old Volvos...). Viewing welcome & encouraged. Test drives welcome if you can provide proof of insurance. If not, i'll happily drive. Mileage may go up as still in use (in nice weather).
More than happy to chat over the phone & can send more details via email.
I'm in no rush to sell the car, so won't entertain stupid offers. I'd gladly keep it in the garage & watch it increase in value.
Thanks for looking :)
