KEY FACTS
This Land Rover Series I is a well-presented example of the iconic classic 4x4, which has benefitted from a prior restoration and still presents in good condition today. Under the bonnet is the vehicle’s original 2. 0-litre inline-four, delivering around 52bhp to all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer indicates 48, 117 miles though this is not warranted. First registered in November 1957, this Series I has been with its current owner for two years, during which time it has benefitted from the fitment of a new steering rack, a genuine Smiths heater, and a new soft top roof.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
Finished in Land Rover Green over a colour-coded interior with green vinyl-trimmed seats, this Series I rides on its correct 16-inch beige-painted steel wheels, shod in Jetire tyres. It also features a Sand-toned fabric hood, a folding front windscreen, and Jaeger gauges which show charging amps and fuel level alongside the bastic speedometer. Modifications include the fitment of a genuine Smiths heater, which is pictured. The vehicle will be accompanied by an invoice for the new roof, and its V5C registration document.
CONDITION
The Land Rover Green paintwork is in fair condition, and has been resprayed during an earlier restoration. It shows some light minor wear, including peeling, small cracks, and other small marks from general usage. The recently replaced soft top roof presents in good order with no major defects. There is some visible surface corrosion on the car’s underside, which also extends to the suspension components and exhaust system. Inside, the cabin presents well, with some peeling and small areas of surface corrosion. Generally, it presents a handsome ‘patina’ of age. The green vinyl seats have been reupholstered, and present in good condition with no major wear.
The car is exempt from mandatory MOT testing as it is more than 40 years old!
SUMMARY
This Land Rover Series I is a pleasant example of the classic British 4x4, which wears a handsome patina following an earlier restoration, since which it has evidently seen careful usage. This vehicle has been fitted with several upgraded and replacement parts during its current ownership, and while its service history is largely unknown, it is reported to be running and driving very well. Ready to enjoy immediately, this Series I could be pressed into immediate use and would make an ideal addition to any collection of characterful classic vehicles, or could be brought up to a very standard following some general cosmetic attention.
