Petrol 2286cc. Will be supplied with 12 months MOT (last one required before exemption for both Tax & MOT). 12v. RHD. Parabolic Springs. Heritage Certificate present showing build on 20th August 1983 and dispatch to Central Depot (Ashchurch). Late release from the Army (2001). Cast off certificate showing a mileage of just 04235 miles, now showing 18, 371 miles with MOT history since 2005 showing incremental increases. Only 2 keepers since release. Immobiliser. We are delighted to present for sale this ultra-low genuine mileage Land Rover® Lightweight, which is from the very last full year of production – 1983. Rather unusually, this Land Rover® Lightweight has a history which allows us to verify the mileage at just 18, 371 miles – including heritage certificate, CAST off certificate, and MOT history from 2005 (available online). It is also exceptionally late in regard to its release from the forces, having only been registered for civilian use in 2001 – meaning it has only had 2 keepers since this time. It even comes with an original Maintenance Schedule Army Equipment Publication, explaining to Regimental Workshops of required works during deployment.
Externally – this has all the items one would hope to see on a “good” Lightweight – front bumperettes, rear bumperettes, military lifting eyes, bridging plate, larger mirrors for better visibility, military screw lenses, bonnet mounted spare with retaining strap, etc etc. A recent canvas completes the look, along with a set of military 600×16 Avon Chevron tyres – so it looks as would have in service. A Towball and Electrics is fitted to allow towing.
The interior carries on the standard theme, with three deluxe type seats in the front, with matting to the footwells. There is a seat belt bar fitted, to allow 3 point belts for the driver and passenger (a legal requirement for the modern MOT test). It is great to see so much of the military items that are often missing are still fitted – including the military flyscreens, square heater with front demist vents, and the wiper motor cover and convoy light switch. There is also a key operated immobiliser, which is great to increase security. The rear is unfitted, with the exception of a load mat to the floor area, to protect against scratches and damage. It could house bench seats on request for £595, which gives seating for seven including the driver.
Out on the road, it is very much apparent this Land Rover® Lightweight really has not been far – based on the CAST off certificate, it appears it served in the 5th regiment during the Northern Ireland Campaign. Lightweights often did seldom little during service – and to have one with verifiable mileage such as this is entirely unheard of in our history. It drives as well as any Lightweight we’ve ever had the pleasure of owning, with the Parabolic Springs and Free Wheeling Hubs aiding comfort and economy.
In summary, if you are looking for a late Land Rover® Lightweight with low ownership & verified mileage, then this could be for you. With just one year remaining before MOT & Tax Exemption (and already qualifying for Classic Insurance) it should prove cost-effective to run in the longer term, whilst also being a solid investment for the future, due to the history.
